AJ, as JC just described above the Corbins seem to often leave that "man, this is firm" first impression. For whatever reason, however, they do seem to just work. The one on this bike is my Corbin seat. Many many miles. The same bike that would hound you after two tank fulls suddenly becomes an easy 800 mile day after day machine. 1k days don't kill you. Hard or firm or whatever you choose to call them; they just work.
I too thought softer was better, but there is a really big difference in softness and support.
On a soft saddle, I felt like I sunk in until one of my parts got close to something firm, causing a pressure point. On the firmer saddle, the seat compresses where it needs to, and not as much in other areas. There is a definite break-in period for them. I know the first day I rode mine, I was a bit uncomfortable when we were nearing the end of the 250 or so miles we rode.
It's one of those things you have to try it, to believe it. It took me awhile, but I'm glad I moved away from the Mustang.
