Chrome peeling, I want to compile a list
« on: February 26, 2007, 02:05:49 PM »

Guys, I know this has been covered before, but the format is not of any value to those of us that have current or future issues.

2 recent threads are the one I started at
http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php/topic,10959.0.html

And a chrome poll at http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php/topic,636.120.html

http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=636.0;all

This poll-thread was limited to the SEEG and prints out to 56 pages, but has nothing to argue with the rep with!

---------------------------------------------------------------------

My chrome peeling parts were denied by the moco rep.

What I want to do is compile a list of bikes that have had the chrome replaced under warranty. And if you were denied the replacement that would be helpful too. There seems to be enough of a problem that there is the possibility for a legal issue (class action). The problem with class action suits is that they typically only benefit the attorneys involved.

So, if you have had a part peel, please list the following info to the best of your knowledge and email it to me.

porthole@optonline.net

I will compile the list and have it available for all to use. I would keep any info you wish private, with the understanding that it will be used only for the CVO forum members

There seems to be at least 24 members of this site just with 04-05 SEEG's that have chrome issues, lets help each other. I would like to limit this to CVO bikes. Info like "my 05 SEEG had the wheel replaced" is of no use. We need specifics.

If you wish to list some basics in this thread that would be fine, but I think the detailed info should be emailed

Please help

I noticed that chrome was peeling on my 2007 SERK, but being winter I will wait til I'm back on the road.  The chrome is peeling off of the concole, right in the middle.
I don't think this will help your case.  I'll update when repaired.

Thanks

I have had the front wheel replaced, 2 new floor boards plus a few other parts that slip my mind.  The service manager just orded up the parts no questions no rep review.  Did they give a reason for refusing.  Might want to try a different dealer.

The only peeling chrome I've identified and had replaced was my front right brake rotor.  I noticed a big flake on the concrete while I was washing the scoot this past Sunday, but I haven't found any missing chrome on the bike..........yet.  I've been over it several times, and I can't find any missing chrome, so I have no idea where that flake came from.

The dealer got the rep involved, he denied it. I have not spoken with the rep yet. The other dealers in the area are not an option. My dealer has the best techs out of the 5 closest dealers.

How can they deny if the bike is still under warranty? :nixweiss:

I'm with d00d Duane, I don't know how they can deny it if the bike is still underwarranty.  That's not normal wear and tear.  Also, going to another dealer to get a warranty honored, regardless of what their techs are like is better than not getting it at all.  You can always go back to the dealer your comfortable with for normal wrenching.  JMO.

Using a different dealership to resolve a warranty issue (paint in this case) was successful for at least one other member of this board.  If you're not successful at the current dealership, what do you have to loose by trying another dealership?  I'm not sure why the current dealership would ever have gotten the rep involved........our dealership just orders the parts then turns in the claim to the MoCo......along with the deffective part that has the chrome peeling.

With another HD I owned, the dealer asked how was the bike stored?  Was it heated?  Were any corrosives stored near the bike?  That's how they push back on chrome issues.
Also, the owners manual for my 2007 said that the wheels needed to be cleaned weekly to avoid chrome issues and that not following this would disallow any finish claims under warranty!  :nixweiss:

On the 04 SEEG had two sets of rear wheels replaced and one front wheel and derby cover due to peeling crome.

On the 07 had gas tank replaced due to marks under base coat.

Never any questions asked and far asI know never was a MO.rep. involved.

Something doesn't smell right here. Maybe write a letter to MoCo Corporate and state your case. I had to do that with my cage about a decade ago and it worked for me. I'm not a fan of lawyers (don't mean to offend any atty's). I would exhaust every option before sueing. I will certainly keep an eye wide open and report any problems.

My chrome peeling parts were denied by the moco rep.

I'd be curious to know what part/s are peeling and any names you can provide and reasons for being denied.  You can send in a private message if you like in order not to put anyone in the spotlight for potential flaming.

Have an 05 SEEG that I've had both wheels replaced from Chrome peeling under warranty.  This was done last spring by the dealer, no questions asked.  No Rep. involved and haven't had a problem since.   Spyke

That doesnt sound right, especially if you're under warranty. But, living in the Garden State, who knows? The dealer a wise guy or what?  ;)
