14 SERK lifters replacement
« on: May 21, 2018, 04:20:24 PM »

I have 14 SERK with about 21k miles on it and planning to replace cam bearings, tappets and pushrods with SS products. Just to be sure. Which tappets do you suggest ? Premium with limiters seems to be mostly suggested here, and which pushrods from SS ? HD dealer says that there is difference between 13 and 14 SERK but SS catalogs dont show it. Sorry for my english not my everyday language.

my thoughts are you don't need limiters unless you have a cam with over .600 lift, I just replaced mine in the 16 with premium s&s and used stock push rods

There is no mechanical difference between the 2013 and 2014 valve train or engines for that matter, the differences between the two model years involve the electrical system (HDLAN or CAN bus being the biggest difference) and things like suspension.  Look up Harley Rushmore for details of those changes.

The regular S&S lifters or the S&S Premiums come highly recommended.  You do not need the ones with travel limiters.

I used S&S premium with quickie push rods, that way, if I wanted to put a cam in later, I don't have to pull the top end apart, I also thru in rocker lockers.

Yes....S&S Premiums and stock pushrods...

X2  as that is what I did at less than 20K on my 2014..  Asked Steve at Fullsac and he does not do adjustables so that was ok with me.  No limiters.  Good luck.

Good choice on the lifters. Replaced mine at 19,000 miles.....Common point of failure it seems.   :2vrolijk_21:

I like S&S' lifters. Their low-end ones are as good or better than most. Johnson hylift are very good too. fwtw

Work is done now. Old lifters were OK, no recognizable wear or loose bearing. However, feels good to have them out. Cam bearing were ok also, but swapped anyway. Good thing is that oil pump, chain and tensioner were checked also and all perfect. Those SS time saver pushrods dont need new covers but adjusting is VERY uncomfortable, mechanic with very little girly hands may find it OK :) Local HD dealer  mechanic was very frustrated :D but got it done finally. Engine seems to run a bit quieter. 34k km on the clock.

Fueling makes a little pushrod tube holder tool that makes the adjustables easy to install when using the stock pushrod tubes.
