This is a view down the side of the right saddlebag. To the rear (picture left) you can see the connector that disconnects the harness to the tour pak's spoiler light and side lights. As the spoilers come out of the box they dont have a disconnect there. The harness is originally made to go uninterrupted from the rear light all the way to the accessory connector in front of the battery.
That, to me, seemed like a pain in the ass.
I didn't want to have to fuss with getting the seat off with the tour pak still in place to unhook that connection every time I wanted to take the tour pak on or off. There's no good reason for it to have to be that way. So I went down to the dealership and got one of those Y connectors that lets you plug two devices in the accessory connector in front of the battery. With the Y connector I then had a male and a female end already crimped up. Then just cut it in two, spliced about 36" of wire between the two ends, and therein had a jumper harness that could terminate neatly below the tour pak for easy removal.
The instructions with the spoiler kit and with the side light both had you bringing the wire out the bottom of the tour pak on the left side. But since the high side is the right side when the bike is on the kick stand, and since that side is therefore just easier to get to, I brought it out the right side strictly for convenience. The new tour pak didn't have a hole drilled on either side so it's not like I was leaving a hold open by doing it this way. One new hole and one rubber grommet later and it's just a lot easier to get to then if it were on the "low side."
The connector that comes through the side of the saddlebag in the forward part of the picture is pretty tough to see unless you're really bent over looking down there. The connector to the tour pak is more noticable. But unless you're up close to the bike and looking down between the bag and the fender you still really don't notice it so much. With the saddlebag lid raised both connectors are pretty easy to get to when you wish to unhook them to remove a saddlebag or the tour pak though.
