DETACHABLE LUGGAGE RACK FOR '07 SERK

What suggestions/pictures do you guys have for luggage racks on the SERK.  I'm not sure how often I'd use it, but I'm thinking that it might be nice to put a bag back behind the passenger.  Thanks in advance for the input!

Sorry phase, missed this. I put on the Detachable Hardware specific for '07 SERK for Detachable 2-up tourpak/2-up luggage rack. The rack is the HD 2-up Detachable Liggage Rack. http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=10447.msg164536#msg164536       I use it for trips. I put a large SAC bag on it. That's my detachable tourpack! ;) Hoist! 8)

Does your luggage rack arrangement require the use of those holes in the filler pieces?  If so, how much trouble is it to detach and re-attach?  Are the plastic plugs easy to remove and re-install?

No Phase, you remove those plugs. The Detachable hardware goes thru those holes and stays on the bike, and the rack is deatachable. You can see them in these pics.  http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=10574.msg176549#msg176549

Thanks again!  I see.  The docking hardware stays in place, so it is permanently mounted making use of the holes in the filler pieces.   :2vrolijk_21:

You got it now! The rack's kinda ugly, but exteremely useful. I only use it for travelling, and couldn't travel 2-up without it! ;) Hoist! 8)

Is there a rack that attaches to the passenger backrest that would hold a SAC bag, so that the rack is not there all the time?  If so isit big/sturdy enough to be worthwhile?

I've got the old tried and true 53743-97 to use on the red bike.  Gets used for short hops that might still need to carry something (or a spare helmet) but when don't want the tour paks.  Uses the standard detachable points.  Holds things well.  Easy on and off.  None of them are pretty.  This part number has done it's job for a long time though.

HD has this one. It doesn't hold as much weight as the frame mounted detachable styles. Like Hoist I went for the two-up rack. I use a large T-Bag and liked the idea of the extra weight being carried by the fender/saddlebag support assembly rather than just the sissy bar upright. I know it aint too pretty, but unlike unlike 53011-98, it can be easily removed when necessary.

FWIW, I noticed at the dealers that a Street Glide fitted with a "ground effect" rear fender which also has the fender filler plates had an open grommet in place of the rubber plug. This was to allow the fitting of the antenna through the hole. So I've bought a couple (part# 59778-06) as they may be usefull in filling up that space around the rack support tubes. I can't of course confirm 100% because I'm still waiting for the the bike!!!!

I've used the non supported style of luggage rack (53011-98) along with a large T-Bag and top roll for many years now with no problems at all. I prefer the look of the flat style luggage rack and don't like the idea of the side bars on the bigger rack digging into the bottom of the T-Bag.
