That thought had passed my mind too.  Being unfamiliar with the products it might be surprisingly easy to detune rather than to tune the suspension with such an array of adjustability.  I really don't mind not being the guinea pig this time.

Note to self:

1) Write down initial settings before adjusting.
2) Store said settings in safe, and obvious, place. (Not back of hand)

I'm thinking that once you get the shock set up correctly for the ride quality, the only thing you'll ever fool with is the nitrogen filled preload adjuster, which is a seperate piece attached to the shock.  Haven't seen a picture of the actual model to fit our bikes, but understand that is an easy adjustment to do, depending on what's loaded on the bike.  The Ducati's Showa rear shock functioned in much the same way...had a detent adjuster knob that could be dialed in for times when I got Diva on the back of that bike, or wanted to ride a bit more...aggressively...worked well.  If I remember what I read in the literature I saw on the Bitubos, the adjuster was such that you will know where you are on the setting.  A few rides and I think you'll know like 2 clicks for solo, 4 two up, or 6 two up and loaded.  That's kind of the way I did it on the Duc.

I don't think the price point will be over 700, if that.

The only comparison I have is riding one SEEG with 440's, my Legends, the Vrod, and the Ducati(Showa forks and rear shock, all adjustable).  And of course the stock POS air shocks that come on the FL's.  Others who've ridden on stock HD's with shocks like come on the Vrod (looks to be the same shock that is on Dynas, etc)...how do they compare to the 440's?  A lot of guys on the Vrod Forum have changed to Progressive's on the rear, some to Legends.  A better shock than 440's...something that would fall between that and something like a Penske at 1500 bucks, seems like a potentially good thing.  I'll only be able to report on how different the Bitubos will be over the stock Vrod shock with spring preload.

Am I all wet? Isn't the pre-load an adjustment to the spring, either raising or lowering a ring or other device to push more or less on the spring? I always thought the click wheels were for the compression or rebound damping adjustments.

I was wrong on the HID ballasts / ignitors issue, so this may be another. I've never used any really adustable shocks other than the Progressives, and on those the preload is adjusted with the collar at the top of the shock.

I'm misusing terms,Chief.  The Bitubo's have rebound adjuster ring on the shock itself...also a spring preload adjustment collar, like others.  The chamber is for compression adjustment.

Okey dokey. I'm good now. How does a rebound adjuster ring work? I thought the rebound adjustment would work like the compression. Guess I'm wrong on that one too. Man, I'm gonna have fun messing these up.

If anyone wants to read a good series of articles on suspension, what all the terms mean, how things function, here's a good source of information:

http://www.sportrider.com/tech/146_0006_susp/

Of particular interest is their description of the difference in a cartridge and a damping rod fork.  It also has tips and tricks to set up your suspension for different situations.  The article is more sport bike oriented, but it all works the same.

Another good source of information is: http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-shocks-suspension/

Rebound is the up resistance, compression is the down resistance and preload is the spring resistance. Hope that helps a little. Hoist! 8)

I've got that, I was just trying to figure out the rebound damping adjuster ring. I was thinking it would be a click wheel similar to the compression adjustment.

Guess I'll have to wait til next week.

Did anything happen on the Bitubos in the last week? I haven't seen or heard anything yet.

Mine and the front end are going on Monday (Vrod).

I would think your shocks are there and they are waiting to hear from you.

Took the plunge and had my front forks upgraded with the Traxxion Dynamics cartridges on June 12th.  All I can report is a big "ditto" to all that has been said before.  You get on the bike afterwards and ride off and feel that this is the way it was supposed to be all along.  I can say that it just feels so much more stable and trackable in curves and much more controlable under hard braking.

Highly recommend this upgrade.   :2vrolijk_21:

Being the kind of guy who likes to keep specs of everything that might ever require servicing on his bike "just in case," I asked the Traxxion guys about thier fluid recommendations.  You brave souls who jumped in early (thanks for that by the way) may already have this info but for those who may not here goes.  Maxima Racing Fork Fluid, 7wt.  The fluid height is 115mm measured with spring out and fork fully collapsed at its lowest position.  This fluid is available through Parts Unlminted distribution.

Hey Ultrafxr, glad you also like this suspension upgrade.  Is the price still the same as quoted by TC and the earlier guys?  Did you maintain the stock height?  :nixweiss: thanks, spyder :drink:

Price is same as Terry quoted in the group buy.  I did not think to ask about the height issue.  But I seem to notice that it appears to be just a little taller.
