Noticed some oil leaking the other day so I took it by the dealer. My 6 month old SEUltra with 11k miles has a blown head gasket on the rear cylinder. How depressing.   I love the bike but this is the 3rd major problem. First was the HK radio, then the crossover cracked and now this. The dealer is rushing in the parts so they can get it fixed.

CD
How bad was the oil leak?  Were you having to add oil or was it just a slight indication on the fins of the rear cylinder?
thanks, mij

Spoke with a MOCO service rep last week ,she steted that it was normal for oil temps to be between 250 to 300 degrees . thats a lot of BS in my book...

while geting dyno'd last week, I kept checking my oil temp and was running 243 degrees, the dyno tech didnt seem to be concerned, the guy before me on a 05 SEEG ran at 215 ....

Mine is leaking between the clylinder and the head. Just below the exhaust point. It leaks just enough so that after a day of riding the fins are oily and some blow back on the transmission cover and exhaust. The dealer didn't call this week so I guess they don't have the parts yet. I'll call them today. I have a short ride to lead tomorrow so I guess I will just take it easy. The weather here is mid 70's every day now... wouldn't you just know it!  :(

Well my dealer has all the parts in now. I'm taking the bike down today. They arranged to get me a loaner Ultra to ride until mine is repaired. It's nice to be treated well by a dealer. They also said if they can not get the cylinders clean, they will replace them. I've read that quite a few are being shipped from the factory out of spec so they are going to check both for round. More news later.

That would put your rear Head temp At 350-370 degrees!

lylejm, I just noticed your first post and you have been a member since 10/06! Slow coming but you're here. Welcome!

Yeah, I've taken a bit to get tuned in.  Work, family, and traveling doesn't help much.  I am trying to be more involved though.  Thanks for the welcome.

As many of you know, I've had an intermittent electrical problem with the engine shutting down on my 07 CUSE2 (6K mi.).  After changing the voltage regulator, TSSP, ECM, Systems Relay, Main Wire Harness, Ignition Switch, Ignition Harness and Connector, it looks like the problem is finally fixed (about 1500 miles, no problem).  However, I just noticed this weekend that the rear cylinder is leaking at the rear of the head gasket.  After a couple of hours of riding there's oil across two fins, and drops on the chrome cover on the transmission.  Also, 110 badge has yellowed a little.  In addition to this, I've had to replace the HK radio, rebuilt the clutch master cyclinder, and replaced the clutch.  The MOCO gave me an extended warranty to help offset the inconvenience, but where does it end?  It's one thing after another.  Now I have to find out if there's a porosity problem, is the compression release working, or did overheating cause the gasket to fail, or is the cylinder out-of-round?  To top it all off, I waited until I was reasonably sure that the electrical problem was solved before doing any modifications.  Last weekend I installed the mini beast air horn, V&H true duals and ovals, V&H Fuelpak, and Dohrety Powerpac with vents and billet cover.  It's running great, and now this.  Am I beating a dead horse, or should I stick with it a little longer?

Is there a "lemon law" where you live.  Your problems would clearly cover a new bike in Washington State.

Any discussion with the dealer?  Obviously HD thinks there could be a problem or they would not have offered up the warranty.

Well I got my bike back from the shop yesterday. The replaced the cylinders (front and back), pistons, and gaskets. I took a look at the rear piston. It was heavily coated with carbon build up. The motor runs good again. The big bummer was all the scratches in the clear coat on the tank. The removed it (of course) and put a padded protector cover over it. I guess the cover must have been dirty inside and left LOTs of scratches. Now I have to negatiate this.

It looks like it could be polished out but I'm not too keen on agreeing to that. Losing that much clear coat will put me at risk of polishing through in the future I would think. On past bikes, I have polished out the fine scratches and swirl marks once or twice a year. What do you guys think?

Second option was to send it to a painter and have it polished out and re clear coated. Can't say I'm real keen on that either.

Third option is a new tank. Not sure what they cost but that's what I'm going to ask for today. As the funny lady used to say "If it ain't one thing it's another"  >:(

Glad to hear the bike is back and running well.  Total bummer on the tank issue, we can't see the scratches but it sounds like they are deep.  If so it may be tough to rub them out as you say without sacrificing the clear.

Still, if you let them attempt the rub out and it works well without major compound rubbing etc. you may be better off.  At any rate I would let them do any attempt at repair rather than myself so the issue remains in their hands.

Good luck on the first pass for a new tank :2vrolijk_21:

I think I would ask for this option also so they know what I expect. The bike came in the shop factory fresh w/no deficiencies, and you expect nothing less when it comes back. If it takes them getting a new factory fresh painted tank to make you happy so be it. Good luck.
