Are Bluebonnets the same thing that we Brits call Bluebells ??

 ???

Nige-

The bluebonnet is the state flower of Texas.

We have bluebells there as well - several varieties of bluebells that differ from bluebonnets.

The state of Texas planted bluebonnets on many public roadsides years ago - when they bloom the areas look like a sea of blue - very beautiful.  We used to enjoy riding/driving there when they bloom in Springtime.

Worth noting: an added benefit of these roadside flowers is no need to mow early Spring.  Saves money.  We have different wildflowers in Florida by some roadsides, for the same reasons.

Anything similar in England?

Nope can't say as we do. We have Bluebells which appear in the spring throughout many of our parks and woodlands, but no Bluebonnets.

Don't have them in Scotland either, but in late April/May around this area, the Bluebells (different from what you call Bluebells) come out in the wooded areas of the country in their milions, looking like a blue carpet, and the smell when you are riding near them is marvellous!   :)

She also had laws passed to require junk yards on public roads to build privacy fences, which in most cases were fuglier than the junk yards they were supposed to screen. And LBJ was not exactly a handsome man, either. ;D

Not sure on this one, but believe the bluebells here were originally from England.

Yes, that's them - interestingly, the Scots Bluebell is a misnomer, as it's really a harebell, not a true bluebell!

"The Harebell (Campanula rotundifolia) is a short to medium, slender, hairless perennial. The root leaves are roundish and wither early. The leaves on the stem are linear, the upper ones being unstalked. The flowers are blue, 15 mm long and on long thin stalks and in loose clusters. The petal lobes are short. Harebells flower between July and October and are found on dry grassland and heaths in Britain and throughout Northern Europe. In Scotland, it was often known in the past as the Bluebell, whereas elsewhere, "bluebell" is used for Hyacinthoides non-scriptus."

Decent photos of the Bluebell "carpet" effect are hard to take, but here's an example.  Just imagine riding for miles with the sea of blue all round you and a wonderful sweet smell!

Cobaltman, OK, This thread has gone to bluebonnets. Getting it back on track here. Give us a ride report. How are you liking the Jester? Does it live up to your expectations?

Thanks for asking HB. It's amazing how easily the hijacking of threads happens :'(, but it's all good.

As for the ride, it is everything I thought it would be.  The biggest difference you notice vs. my 05 Heritage is the performance.  Torque and HP are amazing and this thing really flies!  I have 300 miles on her and got it remapped when I got her back to Dallas.  I'm getting a little decel popping, but I think that will be fixed when I get her dyno tuned at 1K.  I have read the manual and have purchased the service manual and supplement (not mechanical, just like to read about this stuff so I don't appear as dense as I may look :D).   Next up to learn is the Navigation system and get the XM radio activated.  I plan on hooking up the garage door opener this weekend as well.

She handles pretty well for a big bike.  Four Rivers did a great job on getting her ready to ride.  I"m happy with all of the mods I did ( K&N, V& H slip ons, various chrome pieces) and now and looking for phase 2 :D.   I see a few bolts that definitley need covering and I want to get some dividers/organizers for the tour pak and bags.

Also, I need to move the passenger backrest back a notch to create a little more room for the passenger. I'll look up how to do it in the service manual.  I would love to have the pack detachable like yours, but that will come in time.  I wish someone close to me had the hawg-tunes speakers.  I would love to hear the difference between them and the current stock speakers.

My biggest concern is the heat the engine generates and how it will handle our Texas heat.  I plan on removing the lowers this weekend to provide more air over the rear cylinder.  I am also researching what oil to use when it gets changed out.  Mobil 1 and Amsoil are under consideration.   I have been happy with Mobil 1 in the Heritage.

I plan on getting the first 500 miles on her this weekend, and then quickly get another few hundred so I can get her checked out and tuned properly.

All in all, I am very happy with the bike.

Glad to read you are enjoying your new ride, Cman.  I need to get the manuals myself. On moving the tour pack back, the stock holes were not enough room, so I chose George's aftermarket product and now the wife is much happier.  Others have crafted their own solutions.

The stock speakers leave a lot to be desired when compared to others.  Another item on my list.

It's a fun ride!

Yes, I had the TP removed before I joined this site. The Amp is in the saddlebag. That muther gets HOT! If I had it to do over, and I still might, I'll use the hog wired system and get the amp under the fairing. That's a better remedy. I tried the navigation system several times before I finally broke down, read the manual and figured it out. It causes some aggrevations. There's a few little quirks in my opinion. If the disk is not in there, you don't do anything with it. If it is in there, everytime you shut it down and crank it back up it goes through several screens that are BS. BUT, If i'm traveling somewhere I'm not familiar with, it WILL get ya there.

I love mine! If I had it to do over, I'd buy the same thing again.

Glad to hear you're enjoying it! Ride on bro.

HB - the GPS has no map feature, which makes it marginal at best, IMHO.

Do you know if the stock amp will fit in the fairing?  Likely I will go the Hogwired route when moving it but if the stock amp fits, would be worth considering.

Due to the amount of heat the HD amp puts out, it needs to be in free air. That's one of the reasons is under the TP. I don't think you want to put that inside the fairing. Besides, the way it connects with the speakers would require a good bit of re-wiring.

Hands down, the best solution for an amp is the HW system. I don't have one, but I want one.

Thanks for the info, Chief.  The amp in its present location does get very warm.  HW appears to be the best solution along with a speaker upgrade.

Considering amps/speakers and such - auto manufacturers eventually put better systems in - have not swapped anything in the old F-150, or the new Z4 or Charger.  But the Moco still puts marginal quality speakers, etc. in their fairing bikes.  Odd, unless one considers a few other components that leave much to be desired.
