The raceways started on the baggers with the 06 models year.

Well I'll be damned....   Thanks  :2vrolijk_21:

OK, here is a pix of the H-D mid-frame air deflectors installed.  Put them on Sat night after riding about 150 miles that day to our HOG chapter picnic.  Temp was low to mid 80s and I could definitely feel the heat from the motor.

Took it out Sunday afternoon with the deflectors on and could tell a definite improvement.  Does help with the heat at low speeds in traffic and when stopped.  Plus I got several compliments.  Most folks liked them better than the Kurys but that is just a personal preference.

They are moderatly difficult to install.  Would be easier if had a buddy to help which I did not at 10 pm Sat night.  Most challenging thing is tightening the screw for the front of the right side shield.  The right corner of the rear cylinder blocks access.  Finally cut down the short end of an allen wrench to get to it.

Jerry,

They look great on your bike and appears to be functional as well.  Have not seen a set of these in person yet.  With summer coming, that will not be long.

The HD version is a different shape than the Kurys.

Sure is.  The front of the Kurys bolt on from the top side and the rear is secured by the front tab of the side covers.  The H-Ds bolt from underneath the frame and they don't stick out as far to the side.  Never ridden with the Kurys but I think I do like the H-D version better.

Interesting.  The Kurys do not quite get in the way when riding - so far they are ok.  From your pics the HD version looks better.

I have sat on a bike with the Kurys and they don't get in the way but they definitely stick out farther from the bike.  I think H-D is going to sell a lot of their version.  But is is pricey - $89.95 - about $20 more than the Kurys if I recall correctly.

Jerry,  they really do look good.  Do they come with the HQ approval?  If she says they are good, then we all know they are.   :cherry: :huepfenjump3: :bananarock:

Do they help relieve the motor of the heat, or just keep it away from the people on top? :confused5: Hoist! 8)

Howie -Just to keep the heat away from the riders/passengers.

Keeps the ribs from getting jabbed as well from too much heat - that sharp stabbing pain that occurs at times when 'she who is unhappy expresses displeasure.'

The SEERT & true duals helped the motor though.

Not from being jabbed.

Nevermind.

I would think that any of the heat that's not getting to me, is staying at the motor by being trapped under those shields! Interesting concept. I think people are going to think this saves their engines! Hoist! 8)

Heat rises naturally - the deflectors just deflect it away from the riders legs.

Most importantly for some of us, does your rider notice a difference for the better as well?  They look good.

HQ did not get to ride yesterday but she approves of the look.  Think she'll like the effect also.  We're having a big ride this weekend and will have a chance to really see how they do.

Like was said, they just deflect heat from rider (and maybe passenger?) but don't think there will be any effect on engine.  I'm not really worried about trapping heat around motor.  I think it can stand a lot more heat than I can for sure. :2vrolijk_21:

Jerry - please report on HQ's comments re: HD heat shields when you find out.  The Kury version deflects some heat toward the passengers feet - mostly on the left side.  Not an intolerable amount, but noticeable.
