Break in procedure for new cylinders
« on: May 10, 2007, 01:22:48 AM »

Any recommendations on break in procedures for the new cylinders? Do I have to follow the normal break in?

TIA, AJ

If you choose to adhere to any particular break in procedure at all (many have their own variations or wiccan practices on such things) follow it as you would for any other new set of rings and honed cylinders.  If you just feel the need to break it in and don't have your own tantric method than go through the factory recommended steps again.  Accomplishing the same thing you were the first time through it.

It should be the same as the orginial break-in procedure located in your owners manual.

The answer is ride it as hard as you can all day...
Sorry.. had too..   Anyway, you need to heat cycle them a bit, shutting the bike oin and off.  The whole idea is to seat the rings properly.  So, best to start it, idle it, for about 5-10 minutes, and shut it off. Let it cool for about an hour.  Then repeat.  Do it 3-4 times.   Then yhou can ride it in 15-20 mile jaunts, and cool as above.   After a few rides, as short as 10 miles,  you should begin to be able to brinfg the r's up into the 4 k range.  Then ride it the rest of the week, before you romp oon it.

What Rhino said. You should be a little more careful than the manual claims for a new bike vs. a rebuilt top end. It's important to let the motor heat up and cool down a few times as he said. AJ, I don't think he caught on to your mods yet! You'll be OK. The contest is still on, right AJ! ;) Hoist! 8)

Well AJ now you have my attention about time you came off some of those bags of coin you collect.   AJ are you going to tell us what you did or is it going to be a play with Rhino first then whoop up on him him and then say its stock bike like ole Otis?

Let me know when your coming down in June so I can make sure to be off when you and Rhino meet up.   Wow and here we thought AJ was hording his cash.   I still feel sorry for Sassy he spent all this money on other woman and not her.    Sassy I think he owes you something special to make up for this mistreatment.

I can see it now.

Be careful guys.

I met with T man yesterday and AJ's heads were still on the shelf.
If I can say so,,,, they looked very fine!
Picked up my two sets and the new pistons.

So bottom line, I'm not sure what he's doing.
I think he's mad at me for saying he was cheap and chincy.
Or maybe it was that hording cash comment.
But regardless, we will know, the first time him and Rhino roll on!

If they are still on the shelf at T-Mans then hrmph what did he put back on the bike or are we being led to slaughter like sheep.  Or is that fish in a barrel?   Come on AJ we see you lurking at the top of the page.   You can never trust these guys on these "stock motorcycles"

Now that really pisses me off!
When me and Harry start thinking in the same direction.
Damn!
But that aside,
T man said it wasn't any problem, someone else will buy them.
A 110 with his heads, his cams, his pistons, 53 HP intake ='s
132/134 depending on exhaust.

Hope AJ got more than just a new set of rings!
