Newbie needs advice
« on: May 23, 2007, 07:48:01 PM »

Hello, I am new to your website. I have decided that at 57 I have lived the safe life long enough. I am looking for some excitement. I see people riding their Harley-Davidson motorcycles who look like they are having fun. I would like to have some fun. I went to the Harley-Davidson dealership near my home in South Portland Maine and they had so many different motorcycles I didn't know what to do. The nice young man who worked there asked me how much I could afford to spend and I was shocked he would want to know such a thing. Anyway, after he got me to calm down he explained that some of the motorcycles cost a lot more than others. He said the best was something called a Screaming Eagle CVO. He didn't have any of those so I went home and typed in CVOHarley-Davidson and this website came up. So I have registered and looked around a bit and I am very confused. Some of you seem not to like others very much. Do I have to be that way to own a Harley-Davidson motorcycle ?  I am kind of quiet and nerdy I guess you would say if you met me. Could someone suggest what I should buy for a Harley-Davidson motorcycle ? I have seen some pictures of these Screaming Eagle CVO motorcycles on some of these webpages and I like them. I have heard some of these Harley-Davidson motorcycles cost as much as Fifty Thousand dollars. That would put a dent in my savings account, but I am really wanting to do something not so boring as my life has been.

Thank you for your assistance

Some of you seem not to like others very much.

Were I capable of being offended I probably would be.  Very friendly bunch of people here.  Get to know us before you judge us.  There are only three cannibals among the members.  And they're picky about what they eat.  So you're likely safe there anyway.

Otherwise just watch, read, engage and enjoy.  Oh, and be sure and look up Spiderman.

Do I have to be that way

Not unless you don't want to have any friends.  The alternative is a better approach.  And it's more fun.

Could someone suggest what I should buy

Not really.  You can be asked a lot of question about how you might use it.  And from that can be extrapolated suggestion as to what fits those desires.  But in the end it is a Harley.  It's got to pick you before you pick it.  If you don't feel it it's not the right bike.  Be sure and look up Spiderman.  He'll tell you all about it (another Mainer).

Hey Rufus,

Welcome to the site. There's a lot of good information here. There's also a lot of kidding and joking and BSing. We mostly all like each other. Sorta. Sometimes. Take your time and read up on it before making a decision. Just try and make an informative decision.

I think you should get an '03 SERK with an Alligator Bob seat. You should also get a new 96" Orange Road Glide and tear it apart and put Dragons all over it! Then you'll have 2 Touring Bikes just like the Big Dogs! ::) Hoist! 8)

Most definitely.  Rufus my good man, you best check to see what "she" likes too.  Last thing you want is someone within thumping range of your helmet regularly wanting to thump your helmet because you got a dink bike.  Of course the best advice is to check with Spiderman.  The smartest Mainer I ever met!

Hey Rufus,

Welcome and keep reading...you will find the majority of the people here do like each other and get together to ride. We bought CVO bikes because Harley claims that its there best bike...and we wouldnt settle for nothing less. I met many members of this site at our gatherings and I havent found one that I didnt like. There were a few that I didnt think I would like from their postings...but was proved terribly wrong upon meeting them. Just hang out and read a little. Hang out at the dealer some and talk to some people about there adventures and bikes. It will help you make you decision for the type of riding you will want to be doing. If you havent riden before take a bike safety course.

Who knows ...a CVO bike, some dark shades, dew rag and leather jacket...and the nerd might be gone? Then agian...maybe not? But the only thing stopping you...is you. Lifes to short...hope to see you at one of our gatherings in the future. I hope to be the first to buy you a beer, coffee, or soda.  And I bet you wont meet one you dont like!
