I gotta say about the Bitubo shocks and the Traxxion Front end. The more I ride it and pay close attention, I absolutely love it. Best money I've spent since my marriage license.

Well i gotta say, there was very little convincing one way or the other,,,,lol. Looks like the last set of 300's they had on the shelf are heading my way. Seriously, thanks for all the information provided in this thread. I am looking forward to the upgrade. Next up is the front end.

Just installed the Bitubos today and noticed that the rebound calibration faces outwards on the right shock but inwards on the left!  Did I get two "right" shocks or is this just the way they are made?  ( I installed them with the reservoirs down towards the rear)

Robert,

Don't know anything about the Bitubo shocks, but am seriously considering ordering a set.
Did these improve the ride of your bike enough to justify the cost?  Did you change the length from your stock shocks?  If so, shorter or longer?

Thanks,
LRebel

Haven't ridden it yet.  I ordered the 13" model, same length as stock.  Based on all the positive feedback from this website, I am sure I will be very pleased...

Unbolt the top hanger bolt and rotate the knuckle 180 degrees and bolt it back up. There's nothing to keep you from spinning the end to get the reference numbers facing outward.

Thanks Chief-  I feel like an idiot for not thinking of that- it worked like a charm.   Now for a road test of the Traxxion forks and Bitubo shocks... ;D

Chief and Hoist, Thanks for all the info re the Bitubos. I installed mine last night and hope to get them tuned in this weekend. If you have any suggestions on initial settings please feel free to speak up.  ;D
I weigh around 240 and ride 2-up fairly often. Howie, thanks for addressing the sleeve placement, I would have been lost without your previous post. You guys are great and I appreciate it. jj

Hey Chief, Thanks for the non-related tip about the paint brush. Sure came in handy after the little episode concerning  a glare over-spray.  ;D, You've got another light here if you need it. JJ

I wrote it up on the previous page.  I have the 300MM which are about 11.8".  While the progressives that were on the bike were a lot better than stock, the Bitubos handle just as good and have a MUCH better ride than the progressives

Ernie,
What did you decide on for your initial setup with the 300's and did you set them up for more one up or two up riding? I haven't had an opportunity to install mine yet as I am very very anxiously awaiting the completion of the motor work. They look so nice sitting in that box that I just can't leave my hands off of them so I just wanted to play around with the settings and set them up comparable to a tried and true combination to start out with.
Thanks.....Rick

I took off the TourPack, and rode solo about 300 miles last weekend. It felt like my kidneys were about to rupture. The freeze bumps in southern Illinois were like hitting a curb every 400 feet. I called Chief yesterday and he walked me through the procedure for properly adjusting the pre-load etc. I checked it and as suspected found it too tight. I moved the spanner nuts .100" and it seemed to have the proper pre-load at that point.  I started with the compression at 2, rode down some rough 2-lane roads,  and found they bottomed. I set them to 7 and it rode like a dream but still seem to be driving the bumper/stop all the way up. I'm going to bump compression up to 8 or 9 and try once more.

I'm no suspension engineer, but I can tell if the pre-load is set up correctly you will have absolutely no adjustment with the compression settings. Just as well to have a rigid suspension.

I think these bitubos shocks are absolutely awesome, but I think a person has to go to the trouble of having 2, or maybe even 3 pre-load adjustments. Once you figure that out, it can be changed in a matter of minutes. If you're not going to be bothered adjusting pre-load--you better just keep the stock suspension. More air in equals a tighter suspension. Less air in equals a softer suspension. That's pretty simple.

Ken, that is very interesting since I called Traction last week and got on the list for a pair of 13". I have a pair of Progressive that developed a leak, when I called Progressive they agreed they had a lifetime warranty but they must be sent in with the original receipt. What BS, I really doubt many people keep their original receipts, I don't want to be reminded how much I spend on my chrome OCD. Anyway I had a new pair of OEM air shock I took off the banana and slapped those on last week, now I'm rethinking spending the $$$ on the Bitubos. Hummmmmmmmm?? They are not too cheap. :nixweiss:

Mark,

I just had my Progressives rebuilt for free. When I called them they told me I needed the original receipt and I told them I didn't have it. They then said if I could send them proof of any large motorcycle related purchase, that would be fine. I sent them a photocopy of my amex statement with a charge to my local HD shop I had made at about the same time I bought the shocks. They accepted it without question.  It seems they have a rule, but it isn't truly enforced.  :nixweiss:

Regardless, the Bitubos are a better shock. Now I've got a set of rebuilt Progressives to sell.
