Well, the Dealer took pictures of the rear head gasket leak and said they had to send
them to the HD Warranty Rep for approval as warranty work.  Did any one else's Dealer do this?
Kinda seems like a No Brainer to me with this leak and all, but I am just a customer, I guess?!
So, now he said it could take 48 hours for a response and Now I am quite sure I won't have the bike
back by the 4th of July Holiday!!
Anyone wanna buy a 2007 SE Ultra with only 5200 miles?! LOL

Unbelievable! They seem to make this chit up as they go! No 2 dealers operate in the same manner. And they make up the biggest lines of BS I've ever heard! Never heard of a Rep coming in to look at a leaky head gasket. It's either friggin' leaking or it's not! Pretty damn simple. You'd think that with all the issues they're having with these bikes, that they'd be a little more cooperative and sympathetic. We're always the one's who are inconvenienced! Good luck with it. I hope you don't have any more grief over it and they get it done right. Is it worth your while to bring it elsewhere? These guys ain't doing you any favors, that's for sure!

Hey Tim, I feel for ya. The dealer should have just been able to do the work under warranty and not have to send in pictures. Is there not another dealer you can go to?

Totally ridiculous. I showed the service writer the oil and that was that. It's amazing what some of these dealers come up with.

If you need the bike for the Fourth, go get it and ride it while he gets his info. It won't hurt anything to ride it with the leak. It's not a failure that will lead to anything catastrophic. I'd ride it to another dealer if possible, after the Fourth.

I don't know about bike dealers but have witnessed auto dealers that have over used their warranty's and had to have everything warranty wise approved by manufacturer prior to work being done.

Gents,
Just got the call from the dealer and he said the HD MoCo said do BOTH head gaskets and he would order the gaskets today.  I then said do you have the latest and greatest PN for them as he said Yes, it is the PN that AJ, had posted a while back so that made me feel a better!
So he is on it now and I think these guys have never encountered something like this in the 30 years they have been in business.  I am gonna pick it back up tonight and they won't be able to get to it til the 10th of July once the gaskets get in.
I will keep updating as it goes!

Good deal! It never ceases to amaze me that we have to tell them what parts need to be used on our bikes. How could they not know this chit? Scary, isn't it! :nixweiss: Hoist! 8)

Howie,

Its not that they don't know in a lot of cases they may try to get rid of inventory on the shelf vs. doing the right thing.   When you questioned them about doing the right thing, I would imagine they decided to get the right gaskets and not mess around, but will delay you for having to do it the right way.  A lesser informed customer might have been duped.

I don't know that is it or that is the way it really happened, but one could only figure with the run around that it is plausible.

Excuse me I'll be right back, after reading all these stories I gotta go out in the garage and hug my bike. :2vrolijk_21: I cannot believe HD did not discover and resolve these problems before putting that engine out on the market. Surely they have all the brains, money, and test equipment-NOT.

Buddy,  Not that our bikes don't have some minor problems, they each of them do, but I just did like you and went out into the garage and surveyed the stable, and yep!  Happy to be beddin down the ones we have right now.  Over time, all will be right, but I would hate to be out the money for a fantastic bike and then have to spend the time it takes to get it fixed to really be the fantastic bike it is supposed to be.

I don't mind too much Mrs.We, it's getting fixed up my way, partially on their dime. Time will tell, but this thing should wind up just the way I want it when I'm done,
and should run fantastic! :2vrolijk_21: Or am I only kidding myself? :nixweiss: ;D ;) Hoist! 8)

Rooster,

Right on the money.  One thing the manufacturer's never fail to do is hire plenty of statisticians and accountants.  Things like warranty expense are sliced and diced a hundred different ways, with one of the measureables being a dealer's ranking within his group.  A warranty expense ranking significantly above average will put the dealer on the prior approval list.  This can be set up to include all warranty repairs, or just specific types of repairs such as paint, engines, etc., depending on the circumstances.

In the old days we used this system punitively, since everyone assumed the dealer was just stealing from the manufacturer.  Nowdays we are a little smarter, and realize that the cause could be something like lack of properly trained people and poor diagnostics, rather than outright thievery.  Either way, it costs the company money and the customer a lot of aggravation.

The wife just picked up her FLHRSE3 from our dealer. No questions asked they replaced the headgasket, sent out the rocker boxes to a machine shop and had them clearanced. Also kept an extra day to adjust the kneck head bearing. Now the bike sound great no rat-a-tat-tat. Only thing is you can here the wine in 5th gear now the engine is quieted down. They did both headgaskets.

Just dropped the 07 SE Ultra off at the dealer.
Work should begin on Tues and they won't do the front because
it isn't leaking.  I wasn't happy to hear that and let them know it.
Sure don't want to be on a trip and have the front one Poop the bed, but I guess
that is what weget from buying the 1st year model engine like this!
I will keep Yous posted on how the rest of the dealer experience goes
and when I get it back!
