Kuryakyn Adj Passenger Pegs and Rineharts
« on: June 25, 2007, 05:35:09 PM »

Has anyone installed the Adj Kuryakyn Passenger pegs on their 06' CUSE and are also running Rinehart True Dual's?  I see from their Website you need part number 4570 (the actual pegs) and also 4561 (chrome) due to the Rineharts.  Does anyone have a pic of this?  Not too happy that they want another 90 bucks for the chrome extender.   >:(

TCnBham has done this, but he used a custom machined spacer. He'll probably be along in awhile to fill you in on what he did.

Thanks Chief.  I am sure that something could be made to take the place of their extender.

Don't have any pics here at work, but basically the spacer is machined from billet stock to match the contour of the passenger floorboard support where it attaches to the frame, so it looks like an extension of the board support.  Two 1 1/2 stainless bolts and lock washers complete the deal.  The spacer is 5/8" thick, so moves things out enough to provide clearance on both sides of the bike and enable use of the locking pins on the Kury peg assembly.  If you have them powdercoated, or just prime them and spray them with black gloss, they blend into the frame well.  I don't do them myself, but a guy here at work can do it for me.

What kind of money is one looking at for that option?  Seems simple enough.

JJ...sent you a PM.  I ain't gettin' rich selling these things, just doing it as a favor to people who have the need for them.  The Kury solution just sucked to me, so this seemed simpler.

Terry, is it ONLY a problem with the Rinehart's?  I have wanted the
pegs since we were in Fla together.  And I was thinking about doing RH's on the new SEUC.  Have you had the problem that someone posted about them breaking or falling off?
Thanks

Susan would be very comfortable with the passener pegs.   :2vrolijk_21:

Yes she would....now I just have to convince YOUR MAN to come over and install them for me with his ingenious spacers! You two have a great trip next week.

Warren...To my knowlege, the RH TD's are the only TD's that have the problem on the left side, but I've not really checked others for clearance.  One reason for the RH's is simply because the pipes are so "fat".  The heat shields are larger in diameter than most because of being stepped up in diameter as they go towards the mufflers.  That's why they look so good, IMO.

I've not had a problem with my passenger pegs even looking like they were going to break off.  When installing the pegs, it IS possible to break off the bolts if overtightened, so some of the problems could be from overtightening, then they later shear off.  Use blue loctite, snug them down well, and leave it alone.

I'll be happy to install them for you next time we're in Atlanta, which hopefully won't be too long.  Perhaps in early August.

Here are a couple other quick pics of the spacers that Terry can have made.  I actually did not need them on mine.  My Rineharts have a bend in them very similar to the stock head pipes that gives plenty of access to the spring-loaded locking mechanism on the pegs.  Also, the pipes run very close to the frame, more so than some other Rineharts that I've seen.  So, depending on the design of your Rineharts, you may be fine without these spacers, but similar to the Kuryakyn spacers for the rider footboards, these give a little more room for the passenger, as well as helping avoid black boot marks on the shiny pipes!

One thing you want to keep in mind with the 4561s is that those are an extended version of the STANDARD Electra Glide passenger footboard mounts, not the more stylish mounts that come on the SEEGs and '06 SEUCs.  What this means is you'll have to then get the other (right side) mount in chrome from your Harley dealer and then get the 7926s, not the 4570s.  So, to make a long story short, the spacers that Terry can get you will end up being the cheaper route to go, if you need them.

I had mine powdercoated gloss black to match the frame:

Right side (with better view of the spacer) . . .

Brian...wonder what rhyme or reason there is on the pipes to have one's like mine, where it is does not have that same bend as yours...have you been able to notice if it's 04/05 pipes, as opposed to 06?  Suzanne ordered mine from Eastern Performance in November of 06, they have the new style rear header support, etc...I don't get it.  Not a big deal, but mine, because of the way it's made, comes really close to the primary.
