I can't believe you ever posted it! ::)

But that's a great idea to get people to Rock and Roll a little. I'll just stay in front. If you can't take the noise, you'll have to pass me! :P

Or stay three blocks back. No officer, I am NOT riding with that guy, He's from NYC!

Hey gang, I'm back! And there's nothing better than the no bullchit approach! To anything!!! ;D

Well, after 8 grueling hours of swapping pipes and tuning, I'm back where I started. Last night I changed to the Standard Fatcat muffler and we retuned the bike with it on. On my motor, this thing is a dog! Lost about 9 ft-lbs with it. We tuned and tuned and tuned. My motor wants the biggest chit it can get! Joe was getting annoyed that he couldn't get better performance out of it. We went back to his house and discussed it for hours more. I decided that since the bike ran so good before, I'd put the quiet performance muffler back on. I did that first thing this morning and Joe threw it back up on the Dyno. He first started with the new map from the nite before and started tweaking from there. In the end, the bike ran best with the original map I rode up there with. We did some minor tweaking from there to get rid of most of the popping. He did a dynamite tune the first time and we couldn't do any better today. I'm looking into some custom Supertrapps to try and quiet it down some. But it runs great like this. I'll get used to the noise and Binx will get some earplugs! ::)

So the numbers I posted in the Dyno thread in the SERK Section stand. 126.2 ft-lbs TQ and 120 HP. The bike runs smooth, cool, and has great power and pull. It was what I was hoping the build would turn into. No more, no less! Can't complain when you get what you expect. You always hope for a little more, but I got what I paid for and am very happy with the way the bike runs now. As long as it holds together that is! ;) We'll see about fooling around with it in the winter. But this is the build you'll see in HS! Bring your earplugs! ;D

Going in tomorrow to get the other things done. Then just waiting on my hard bags and I'll be done for the season! Overall, it was more effort than I thought, but I wasn't waiting or counting on HD to get my bike right for me. They don't build these for me. They build them for the masses. I know what I need my bike to do, and I'd be a fool to think that anyone but me could get it there! And as the famous Hubbard says, "There endeth the lesson"! :D

Hoist, did you try changing the throttle body to a smaller one with the standard baffles ( I guess you were talking about the standard quiet baffles ). I think you would see the torque #'s come back up some. If the Fatcat Cat performance quiet mufflers are too loud you can always switch to the true duals by Rinehart. They have decent high end #'s. The only thing I didn't like about them were they change to power range to above 3000, but hey. that's where you're at anyway.

Thanks KD. We needed the 62 mm because of the heads and cams. We tried it with the 58 mm and found that out. This thing just seems to want more flow. Nothing smaller worked as well. But the way it works now is perfect. It's got a great powerband, you can cruise now at 2500 and roll on at will, even uphill, and it really sings at 3600! That's where the cams kick in. It's just a little loud. But that doesn't mean I don't like it! It sounds great! I'm not so sure the PD will feel the same way! ::)

We'll get Binx some earplugs for now. I'm exploring some options for exhaust, so we'll see what develops. I don't think I'm going back to duals though, for the reason you mention. ;)

Hoist,

It doesn't sound like fuel mileage was part of the development equation - but I am curious as to what mileage your getting with the mods you implemented...

Hey Scott, It wasn't an underlying factor. I'm trying to determine what it is, but haven't gotten the chance yet. I still haven't been able to stop twisting the throttle wide open when riding it now. I do know that when I ride it that way, it gets pretty crappy mileage. I got about 33-35 mpg riding home yesterday. But like I said, I'm shifting at 5 grand a lot. When I go to KY next Sat, I'll try to see what "normal" riding mileage is. But I have a feeling I'll stay around 35. The way this thing runs, I'm not sure I want to stop cracking that throttle! ;)

I will sacrifice MPG for the "Smile Factor" anyday! ;D

Getting ready to leave to finish up today. Neck bearings-adjust or replace, PM Calipers and SS rear line, handlebars, Stabo's, Blue Lite Fuel Gauge, performance motor mount and stabilizers, and a new throttle grip. My understanding is that my hard bags shipped yesterday. So it comes right down to the wire, but all should be done for the HS trip! Report and pics to follow when done. :2vrolijk_21:
