I talked to Brad at Freedom cycle yesterday and he said in about a week or 2 they would have something for the 08's.  Probably a SERT not a power commander.

That's great... Now just need to convince the wife that the CVO's don't come with EVERYTHING  8)

That's the hard part, considering if you're like most of us, you used that rational to get the CVO to begin with.   ;)

I echo RedDevil on the rational for getting the CVO bike.  Fortunately, my wife is as much about the bling as I am.  I have spent about $1300 so far and I have only had it 5 days.  I still have a list of stuff to add.  You have to be patient with the 08, because it is going to take a while for HD and all the after market folks to start producing the new products.

Very simple, and true. You're making the bike run as good and reliably as you can for their comfort back there! ::) Hoist! 8)

I've been fortunate to break in several new vehicles but both of my HD's were bought slightly used.  I normally go by the book and have not had an engine failure or oil useage (knock wood).  I think Hoist and others who say break them in the   way you ride might be the best.   I've road tested pickups like mine that come in the shop and they have a lot more pickup then mine for the same vehicle.

Not sure that advice should apply to everyone, like the folks I see cranking up their bikes and immediately launching at WOT. :o  Not good on any engine, but definitely not good on a brand new one.

It isn't necessary to "baby" a modern production engine during break-in, so if you normally ride in a fairly sane manner the advice to break it in the way you normally ride is a good one.  Let the engine warm up for a minute or two (heads warm to the touch) before riding away and try to not let the engine overheat (long periods of idling in traffic, etc.).   I still believe several full temp and cool down cycles are beneficial in the first couple hundred miles, as opposed to doing it all in one ride, but that is just me and I have no data to tell me if it really makes a difference or not.

Let me amend my previous post slightly to clarify. I agree that the engine needs to be heat cycled and get the rings seated. This will be done within the first 50 miles. I feel you should ride it like you normally would, but I do stop every 50-100 miles and let the bike fully cool down again. But while riding it, I don't hold anything back, except maybe pushing it up to Redline on every shift. After 500 miles or so, change the oil again and you should be able to do whatever you want at that point. And I agree with Jerry in his very first sentence.

Thanks all for the good advice and suggestions. I've been going stir crazy for the past few weeks waiting for it to come in. My wife likes the bling to and she was the first of us to say...hey...might as well get a CVO, it has lots of chrome already. She'll be happy as long at the heated seat and radio work. I'll try to remember everything, but it will be so hard to only ride 50 or so miles and stopping to let her cool down.

That should be fun, telling her she can't come for a ride right away.  :-\ I think it would be easier getting a new set of pipes out of her.

I know, mine gets disappointed too, having to wait. But sorry to say, I think it makes a difference. The first 50-100 miles anyway. Good luck telling her. I hope we hear from you again! ;D

At least I have a week to break her into the idea that she can't help break in the bike  :2vrolijk_21:

I will not sipute anyones method of breaking in. Every bike I have ever owned here is the procedure I use.

Start the bike, let it idle for about 8 minutes. Get on the bike bring each gear up to redline dump off, then I decel allowing the engine to do all the braking and downshift at the least possible rpms without lugging, pull over and grab a beer or other beverage of your choice. Allow the engine to cool completely.

Do same porcedure again...........change oil and filter..........broke in..........done.

This has worked for me with the last 5 bikes I have owned and never had a problem. The factory recommended break in procedure might be the "safest" way to break it in......but then you got to figure before your bike left the plant that baby was thrown on a dyno and ripped full throttle before it ever hit the floor, it didn't blow up then did it? If it's going to fall apart I would rather know now not later. I tend to agree with Hubbard aside from my first two warming cycles procedure that I have followed religiously.

Everybody does it different. Once you burn up the first tire... which is usally in the first 500 miles... Should be done. Change tire and repeat. This is the funnest way!!

Gotta agree! Heat cycle it and seat the rings. Then ride it like you're gonna ride it! Tried it their way the first time on this motor, and it still broke, even w/the mods done right away. These 110's are good motors. They just need a little help. As long as your runout holds up, that is! ;) Hoist! 8)
