Griz,

Great looking American Legend Trailer.  I've always like them.  I really like the Harley-look fenders and lights.

Wow, 186k on the old Ultra.  What year was it....2001?

Hi There,

Actually the bike was a '97 and the trailer came in '02... But then bought the '05 SEEG gave the '97 to the wife.  The photo was taken in 2006 when we were advertising the rig as a package deal.  Ended up selling the trailer to a friend that could use it a lot more than we ever would since we were both riding baggers.

Then the wife traded in the '97 Ultra on a new '07 black Ultra... But truth be known, she liked the '97 a whole lot more.  It was a great bike!  The American Legend was an amazing trailer.  Looks great with the bike, lots of storage space and performed flawlessly, barely knew it was back there.  I would highly recommend the trailer to anyone.

Take care & ride safe,
Grizzly

here's a couple more photos...

Bubba_T has a trailer. I bought it for him from an estate sale. It looks like the American Legend only a bit longer i can't remember what it's called. It's got a rack on the top, all manner of bells and whistles, has a padded stone guard on the front, a tray for big cooler and is padded and lined with some nice soft material. I do believe Squirrel and a few other site members could sleep in the sucker. Anyway, I paid $600 for the thing ( if I recall) Someone told Ken they cost over $3k new. Is that possible ?

Brian ....your :zstupid: :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2:

I hit the damn coyote at 120 mph. Well it destroyed many plastic parts on the bike, all on the right side.
If it werent for the trailer I really believe that I would not be here today.

That's a great story and I'm glad to hear you were OK.

I have a similar story of how I believe my trailer saved me from further injury...

In 2003 my wife on her '99 Low Rider and I on my '97 Ultra with American Legend trailer in tow loaded to the limited including a set of golf clubs and we were headed to Vancouver to visit our son in college.  The first day we made it to Sault Ste. Marie at the top of Lake Michigan.  The next day was a glorious sunny morning and we headed out at 6:30am to make the most of it.  Going through northern Wisconsin cruising along on an empty two lane road at 70mph enjoying the sun warming our backs at approximately 11:00am I saw a deer up ahead crossing the road from left to right.  By the time I reached the spot it was off the road heading for the trees.  Foolishly I pointed to the deer so my dear riding behind me wouldn't miss this awesome sight.  Naturally as I pointed to the deer with my right hand the bike began to slow... Keep in mind this whole ordeal happened in a matter of seconds.  I mistakenly had looked in the direction I was pointing and BANG!

I didn't know what the heck happened, but the bike started to shutter and swerve.  Fortunately I managed to bring it to a safe stop along the shoulder of the road.  When I went to put the kick stand out I noticed that the engine guard was smashed up against the tank and not much was left of my lower.  My wife stop behind me and was a mess... Shaking like a leaf as she saw the whole thing happen and thought I was a gonner.

Obviously you no doubt have figured out that I hit the deer's buddy.  The dreaded second one!  My wife says that when I hit the deer and we must have still been going close to 60mph.  I hit it so hard with my engine guard that I sent it flying through the air into the ditch on the far side of the road.  My wife couldn't believe her eyes.

As for me I could barely walk and my foot was all swollen... I thought for sure it was broken and my bike was a mess!  Great, just great - here we are on the second day of a month long trip to the west coast and this happens.

Well, I pulled off the remains of my lower fairing and we headed for the next town west.  Found a Ford dealer open who straightened out the engine guard so it looked half decent after washing off some deer guts all over my bike and trailer, and we went for lunch.  In the restaurant the waitress brought a bag of ice and I propped up the foot to try to hold the selling to a minimum.  The next day I bought some new boots which when worn real tight serves as a great cast.  Thank goodness we were able to keep going and within the week I was playing golf in Vancouver!

To this day, my wife and I credit the fact that I was pulling a trailer which saved my life when I hit that deer... With me, the bike and the loaded trailer weighing in at roughly 1,500 lbs travelling at approximately 60mph the deer definitely slowed me down in a hurry, but with all that weight moving that fast, it kept the bike moving forward in a straight line enough for me to keep control and come to a stop.

Needless to say - I don't point anymore!

... and I'm very grateful that I'm here to talk about it.

Take care & ride safe,
Grizzly

Bought this trailer in Sturgis in 1998 in the anniversary colors.  Towed it behind the Classic for many miles.

That was before.

Nice looking setup..

I have to chuckle about the garage in the background of your picture.  The three car attached to the house largely belongs to my wife, although she graciously allows me a parking space...  A few years ago, I built a three car out back behind the house for my bikes and stuff.  We have decided neither of us cares to sacrifice garage space for the gas grill, lawn tractor, lawn mower, snow blower, rakes and shovels and ect.  So, I am making plans to either put up a yard shed or building an attachment to "my" garage for those pesky but necessary outside maintenance items...

The new part on that building is the garden shed.....  About 25ft to the left of that building is the He-Man Woman Lovers Club, aka bike building.  It is a heated building with two TVs, Tiki bar, Bose sound system and stripper stage, "The stage of dreams, build it and they will come!"   It is a great place to hold GDBS events....  Get Drunk and Burn Stuff.

I never thought to install a stripper stage - but I have a gas ceiling mount Lennox furnace, air conditioning, phone line, cable TV, broadband internet, refrigerator, office...  :2vrolijk_21:

FireDood

You asked about my Bushtec trailer earlier.

The trailer has only had to be greased at the hiem joint and the hitch rotation point, before and during a couple of 2500+ mile trips.  Other than that it has been maintenance free.   They installed new bearings in the wheels when I got them powder coated at about 3500 miles.  It now has about 9K miles on it and has been well worth the $$ as far as I'm concerned.  21 cu/ft of space to carry items like luggage, jackets, helmets, oil, tools and anything else that you can think of, it will hold 350lbs of luggage.  The cooler does kind of increase the tongue weight but I try to keep if below 45lbs.  The Bushtec has a dead suspension, (air shocks and torsion bar), so that it does not jump around behind the bike.  I hardly even know that it is back there.......

Sorry that it took me so long to return an answer to your question.

If you ever find your way up North let me know.......
