Thank You for the information about a warraty.

I plan 15 000 KM trip around Europe for July 2008.
Although I love my Electra though of having a motorcycle that can stop working e.g. in Giblartar makes me scared of costs that I woul have to bare with.

Darek...first of all welcome to the site!!  You will find several people here from your part of the world who also travel a great deal on their bikes, and perhaps you will get to meet some of them in your travels.

The biggest problem with the 110 has been the leaking gaskets.  In most cases, this is not going to leave you stranded on the side of the road.  The motor does not leak enough to cause a mechanical breakdown, so even if the new motor begins leaking again, you will get back home.  Definitely check into getting some kind of extended warranty though.  Good luck, and we look forward to seeing some photographs from your travels!!

I had also so called Engine/Piston Issue described on:
http://www.nightrider.com/biketech/hd2007HD_heat_00.htm

What I am scared of is the same problem for newly replaced engine.
Leaking is only a small issue when compared to improper lubrication of cylinder walls what leads an effect posted on cvoharley.com at:
http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=16799.0

I hope this issue doesn't appen too often for 110 CVO owners.
But I would sugest engine check whenever there is an occasion.

Well, they run for a long time with the leaking rear gasket, so I can't see that being a problem.  Funnily enough, mine DID stop working just north of Gibraltar last year (dropped valve guide). If you've never been to Gibraltar, don't allow more than a few hours to see it.  There's the rock, and NOTHING else - very disappointing place to me.

Neither of those things is going to stop the bike from working - but ride it sensibly in the heat, and keep the engine temperature down. Change your pipes and air filter, & reprogram the ECM to let it breathe better and run cooler.....

Yes, twice.

Fixed once already during the 2,500 mile service.

Scheduled to get it fixed again during the 10,000 service.

Greetings from Poland :)
New to the group but seems like We all speak same language.

I had first oil leak after about 1000 miles. That time I thought it was my fault and the engine is OK. Then I took a ~5000 miles trip around Europe. During the road I did an engine review in Zurich (Switzerland) and they said I have green light to continue my trip (looks like they did not know about the problem with 110's). Although I heard some strange noise and felt engine heat I reconfirmed what they sad and continued the trip. What was my surpirse when after geting back to Poland my dealer arrested my motorcycle in service facility for 2 months and 20 days. Finally the whole engine was replaced.

Now after reading Your posts I am wondering whether replacement will change anything. I see that the problems are still there even after fixes. Because my warranty period will end in few months and I plan another 10000 miles trip for 2008 I wonder if I should stick to FLHTCUSE2, change to newer version or buy Goldwing.

Do You know whether FLHTCUSE3 has the same problem?

Regards
Darek

Darek,
First, welcome to the Forum. And you are correct, we do speak the same language as far as the SE 110 engine is concerned.
I don't know what the warranty polices are where you are located, but in the US we are able to change parts without loosing the entire warranty. There is a fix to the engine. But it cost $$$$. Replacing gaskets, changing air filters, Serts, and changing pipes are only bandaids to the problem with the SE 110.
On owning a GL1800, only if you make it a standby. They are a good bike, don't get me wrong.
It will probably be by 2009, that the FLHTCUSE? will have a solid engine.

Vagabond. Thank You for Your reply.
My whole engine has been replaced with new one that came from HD. The motor was unsuable after ~5 000 miles :(
I did send an email to HD Europe asking question about replacement machine whether is old model or new one with fixed design but I haven't receive any answer yet after almost 2 weeks.

1980 Miles on my 07 FXSTSSE (I know its not an 08 but..). When I changed the pipes I notices an oil mist around the head gasket. So I took it in and they confirmed the rear head gasket was leaking. They ordered the gasket and I brought it in today for replacement. They just called and said they replaced it, took it for a test ride, and it was still showing signs of leaking. The called HD tech line and the support rep asked them to remove both heads and check for cyclinder liner movement. They also told him they needed a new 4th generation head gasket (composite gasket with a "fire ring" ). So now the dealer is removing both heads and checking the liners. If they show signs of movement they have to replace the cylinders and I suppose, at least, the piston rings. I hope that's not the case and the new gasket is all that's required. Sucks anyway since it will be down another week while they wait for parts.

Sorry, maybe the new gasket/ cylinder combo will make it a one time fix.

Dealer called late this afternoon to tell me the white/silver SE Ultra I had put a deposit on just came in. Now keep in mind I took my name off the list several months ago and told them it was due to the 110 problems. When they called back then I told them to go to the next person on the list because I had no faith in the 110, they said they'd had not heard of any problems with the 110. Today they had the same knowledge, what problems, even though I know of at least 5 they have had to rebuild. Today when they understood I was not interested, the tune changed to "that's been fixed, the new ceramic gaskets have fixed the problems". I know the bike they put the new gaskets on and that bike has maybe 100 miles on it since the repair a few weeks ago. I told them to call me back if the white bike was still available after the "fix" was tested on more than one bike and at least 5K on them. I'm not expecting that call.
If anyone is interested, there is one available now at Bumpus for MSRP or less.

Holly Sheet, I just spent the last 2-3 hours reading this thread in its entirety.....If the MOCO doesn't make this right I'm not sure the stock will ever come back. I gotta say I feel for all you guys. I'm liken my 95" street glide these days..... but I'm still looking to get my hands on that cherry. I'm going to check it out tomorrow morning. One last thing....I know the MOCO monitors this site to some degree, why do you think they are ignoring the ones that have always been so PRO Harley for so long ?????? :nixweiss: Count me in for a voice or a vote in any action that is brought forward. Where theirs a will....their is a way  :soapbox:
