Holly Sheet, I just spent the last 2-3 hours reading this thread in its entirety.....If the MOCO doesn't make this right I'm not sure the stock will ever come back. I gotta say I feel for all you guys. I'm liken my 95" street glide these days..... but I'm still looking to get my hands on that cherry. I'm going to check it out tomorrow morning. One last thing....I know the MOCO monitors this site to some degree, why do you think they are ignoring the ones that have always been so PRO Harley for so long ?????? :nixweiss: Count me in for a voice or a vote in any action that is brought forward. Where theirs a will....their is a way  :soapbox:

If you are talking about a 05 SEEG :cherry:, you are fine. That is where I am and I am not going to budge until I feel very very confident MoCo has solved the 110 problems. Nope, ain't gonna let my banana go anywhere.

Headed back to shop........rear cylinder head gasket leak detected after 2200 miles from previous cylinder replacement by HD.  Not sure yet if just gasket or inner liner slipping again....will advise later. :'(

Well, the dealer called back after they removed both heads as per Harley. BOTH cylinder liners have shifted and must be replaced with new ones along with rings and the 4th gen gaskets. Cylinders are on order but the dealer said it would take 5-7 days to receive the parts.

I was thinking of getting the extended warranty but now am wondering why I should throw HD MORE money. I've had this bike for six weeks, its been in the shop for two. As a new HD owner I'm VERY disappointed with my first experience with the MoCo.

DavidG

Sorry to hear about your problems. My 08 rear cylinder had the liner slip too. The MoCo knows of the problem but so far their response has been to replace the defective cylinder with a cylinder made the exact sameway. To do something the same way and expect a different result is the definition of insanity.

My HD shop recommended I go with Axtell cylinders. Scoot & Howie gave me the same good advice. They gave me 20% off and will credit me the labor cost Harley is giving them under warranty. Ask your shop if they can get you into a better cylinder. Good luck with your scoot.

Hey MoCo.....how many first time customers are you willing to make last time customers? >:(

skreminegul07, It had 1808 miles when I found the leak. It was just the rear cylinder but HD tech line had them check both cylinders when they removed the head gasket. The rear had shifted a lot, the front not so much but they are replacing both. I'm going by today to check and see if they received the parts yet.

My rear cylinder leak started around 6500, took it in around 8500mi (oil was dripping on to the tranny cover daily) & the N.O. H-D shop did all gaskets from the cylinder bases up...

The leaks are due to the liner shift, so just replacing the gaskets is a futile effort.  It usually re-leaks after only a few hundred miles the second time.  Are these guys in a vacuum?

If anyone from the Mo Co is really monitoring this site, they must be laughing with evil intent.
At this point, for as many of the same problems as has been experienced, for them to continue to deny there is a problem- there is more than a little insanity going on here.
I do like the Axtell cylinder idea though.  If I end up with a problem, I'm going to pursue using Axtell replacements.  -Too bad the Mo Co doesn't just work out a deal with Axtell for their cylinders.

If my replacement motor develops the leak late this summer, I will opt for the Axtell cylinder solution which itself will be well tested by my fellow site members.

Well, based on the quality of their cylinders, and after the comparison to stock (there is NO comparison!), the cylinders should become a non-issue with the Axtells! ;)

ok so when/if it (dreaded shift in liners / head leaks) happens again my next move is to fix the leaks put the motor on the shelf, put in a 120/131 and when I sell the bike put the stock motor back in :)  or Sell the bike after it is fixed and just take the hit and go find another 04/05.   Not going to worry about a top end build and as for the warranty I don't think it really benefits harley all much as far as profit goes, I am more concerned with electrical / tranny and other on goings.   Luckily we had the warranty on the 04 bike or it would have cost us 1500 dollars for a radio and the labor.   Warranty was cheaper and we have 4 more years to go.

OK...round 2 for rear cylinder repairs.  Last repair 11/07/07 w/ head gasket Part #16801-07A and cylinder part # 17285-07A.....2,000 miles later, back to the shop 1/29/08 for same problem leak at head gasket and cylinder base. This time it goes back along with letter to MoCo and customer ticket # requesting either they fix it, or reimburse my $$$ back.  :-\

:confused5: I have just decided to ride out the 2 year warranty and keep it stock .. no use in bumping it up if I can't ride it (Cams, Pipes air K&N Air filter) if its going to be in the shop more than on the road... I'll be doing more swimming in our pool than riding....LOL  :coolblue:
