I can also be move from the no leaks to leaks.....they replaced both cylinder head gaskets and base gaskets, took it for a test ride and it still leaks.  (15K)  They're talking new motor.

There has been a lot of class action, NHTSA office of defects threatening/posturing on this thread. Does anyone actually know if there is any recourse when we finally realize that the boat anchors...oops...I mean motors that they send these bikes out with are determined to be junk?

I mean, what happens if after you have had three new head gaskets and two new motors then your warranty runs out and it still has issues? With an obvious history of defects will they still help you fix it after the warranty runs out?

Good question huh?

Good question, and one that Harley should have voluntarily answered already if they were the least bit worried about their reputation, repeat business, etc.  The way to do that is to issue a letter to owners extending the warranty coverage, like they did back in 2000 with the cam bearings.  Of course, back then they had an effective fix already worked out, and they wanted to reassure potential customers about the new Twin Cam engine .  It appears on the 110 they still haven't come up with an effective fix. (What's it been, 13-14 months since the first failures were reported?  Some companies can design entirely new products in that amount of time.)

If they decide to bury their heads on this and start blowing off folks when the 2 years is up (the first 110 warranties will be expiring next summer), I would almost guarantee that we will see lots of litigation and lots of free publicity (the kind most companies do not want).  Hopefully, the management is bright enough to understand that.  :confused5:

You make good points Jerry - I tend to wonder if because the problems seem to be limited to the 110 motors - that the 110 motor will simply go away - and they made a business decision that it was cheaper to abandon the limited number of customers that bought this motor then it is to stand behind it and make it right...  The cam bearing problem was all twin cams...this problem appears to be limited to the 110 CVO owner - and there are what - maybe 25000 or 30000 of these motors out there.  And if 2/3 of these fail - the problem is limited to about 18 to 20 thousand of us vs. EVERY twin cam owner.

If the 110 goes away, I will have my answer...

The numbers make me wonder...  After all, in the end, every aspect of every business is money...

Can't you after having the same recurring issue have the bike Lemon lawed ? Has anyone tried this or actually spoken to an atty. ? I know for one with a shorter riding season having my scoot down during the height of the riding season multiple times would irk the chit outta me. I feel for all of you and hope the Moco steps up and does the right thing.  Later,Q

That might be one approach Q. And it sure is damn frustrating to have the bike down during the shorter riding season we have. But if you love the bike overall, it's not that difficult to take care of it yourself. All you need is the $$$ and a COMPETENT engine builder to take care of it. I was on the right track toward that end. But got bit by the lack of competence on the assembly process. But I'll persevere, and this time it'll get done, from bottom to top, by a competent builder. There's no reason to believe that this time I won't be successful in overcoming HD's lack of providing us with a good reliable powerplant! ;)

Can you post a map of yout DTT? I am interested in the 2 d tables as well as the Advance Table. I have true duals and a 50mm SE Throttlebody but I am interested in your map too.
Thank you in advance for the reply :)
2007 B/O FLHTCUSE2 w/ approx 8000 miles: new tiny leak on top rear cylinder head gasket facing the rear of the bike.

My mechanic suggests that I wait for it to get a little worse before I take it to the Harley Dealer.

Hoist,

I am definitely looking forward to the day you let us all know the perfect build on these engines. I know you have all ready put alot of effort and cash in to this project, but like you said it is a labor of love. I'm all ready stashing away monies to be allocated for just that purpose. It is a shame that they are dragging feet at Harley to make these engines the reliable machines they should be considering everyones investment, as well as Harleys reputation. Whatever the numbers may be, 20,000 angry people can make an incredible difference in the way a company is perceived. Best of luck to all!

FLYNDyna,

Wondering where you are headed with what you mean by perfect build?   I really don't think there is that much terribly wrong with the 110's, provided you can resolve the leaking top ends and tune the bikes correctly to relieve the heat issues.

Hopefully I will get 3500 miles on the bike soon and be able to report back that Wes's fix for the leaks is good to go.   Beyond that a good tune and your off and riding.

8000 Kilometers and no leak, yet. Can someone tell me the product code of the cometic gaskets Kit for our HotHotHot engine, please ?
In Italy the stealers are even worse than in the US, after six months I have not yet received the user manual for the satellite navigator, and I had to order it and I will have to pay for it when it comes.
Additionally the Clutch cofer Screamin Eagle blue paint came away washing the baby....nice uh !!??
The stealer told me I will wait at least six months to receive the replacement AHAHAHAHRGHH!!
I have spent 5K usd for true duals+ mufflers, 50mm throttlebody, Daytona Twintech TFCI ECU plus SE A/C etc.
Sorry for the sarcasm but I am becoming really fed up of the moco !!
Regards to all of you !

Hi Andy.

There is no way you should have to pay for the Nav system manual!  :o  None of the European bikes came with the manual, but it came within a few weeks of our dealer ordering it (in the UK - same for France as I recall) and they did NOT ask us to pay for it.  If I were you, I'd complain to the MoCo local representative about 1) it taking so long 2) the dealer expecting you to pay for it.

The (red) paint came off my Derby Cover too, same as yours - I stuck it back on with clear silicone and (so far!) it's still there.
