Here's a link to a thread discussing a letter about the 110 failures in the Feb. issue of American Iron.

http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=18670.0

Their response to the letter is laughable.

07 FLHRSE...@ about 8000 miles rear cylinder base gasket leaking and rear lifter block leaks.  Dealer tightened lifter block.....rode bike 120 miles and states does not leak!!  Rode bike home and in storage now for winter.  We'll see what next years riding season brings but since they did nothing to rear cylinder I can only assume still leaks?  I do have to ride quite a ways before it shows up between washings and detailing.  No head leak though. Other than that love the power and the bike.

Also for all you folks who think your SERK seat is too hard, I sent my seat to ceebaileys in California for a re do and its awesome.  I believe they use temperpedic foam, recover with leather and stitch the flame back in.  Nice work and much more comfortable.  Visit their website...ceebaileys.com.  They will do whatever you need.

Dealer in Tucson replaced rear jug, rear rings, rear and front gaskets. Stock leaky gaskets was made from 3 metal layers (it seemd like that), and MoCo send a 3rd time revised gaskets, they are like compressed asbestos, feels slippery gray color (I think is graphite treated), looks like some auto exhaust manifold gasket (obviusly, with their metal rings insert), new revised part # 16801-07C, and I hope this is finally remedy (or am I dreaming?). 7,000 miles. Is not supposed to deactivate rear cylinder to avoid overheating? How I feel if that feature works? Also put SE-257 cams, Rineharts true duals, SE air filter (and keep stock own cover), SERT, 4 HID lights (yes, low, hi, and fog lamps, and "relayed" for keep all lights on while switch to hi beam, it's like a day on night, almost see the bones on deeres crossing highway like X rays), J&M speakers, isolated rear sprocket, oil temp (air temp gauge goes out) and Bluetooth. I'll keep monitoring leaks, and whole bike for more defects. Is there a bike that has the beauty design, sound and resale value from a Harley, technology and quality control from a BMW, and the price of a Honda? Would be the perfect bike. I like to dream.

Hi Johnny - the new gasket sounds interesting!  I hope it's the final fix too.

She looks gorgeous in the photo! And so does your bike!!  :lolk: :lolk: :lolk:

You'd feel when the rear cylinder shuts down for overheating (at tickover). It starts to fire on every second spark, and slows down - it feels rough. Then, as far as I understand it, if the temperature continues to rise, the rear cylinder shuts off totally, which will feel like a dreadful mis-fire, and I expect you'd have trouble keeping her running at all.

Interesting to see that even right next door to the US, your bike seems to be HDI spec, to the extent of getting that awful rear number plate bracket, the plain mirror stems, plus the trim on the front fender. Do you have all the other HDI changes too? (no XM radio, no garage door opener, single bulb headlamp, etc?)   :drink:

If you have your map you can tell if the eitms is enabled.   Go to the constants page of your map its the last one in the pull down list and check there.  By default it is not turned on, with the race tuner if you want to enable this all you have to do is turn it on there save the map with a name and reload it back into your bike.

I went to my dealer to check on the revised gasket that you mentioned (16801-07C).  He looked in the book and online and could not find that revision.  Will you double check the number to be sure it's correct?

Same here, 16801-07A is still what I'm being told. A new gasket was rumored, but I haven't seen anything surface yet.

The most recent repairs don't seem to be holding up yet.  Assuming the most recent "fixes" are reflected in parts supplied for the most recent repairs one has to doubt whether the problem is fully resolved yet.

Jim and all friends:
Yes, my bike is international as you see in the photo and also no XM, no garage door opener kit, with navigation system but without nav. manual and no nav. cd's, H4 headlamp, H3 fog lamps and km/h speedo-odo. I paid (international manual and brochure mention these features as domestic USA bike, but the bike doesn't came with, and dealer doesn't did anything to replace the mentioned accesories, you know, you pay $40,000 and after, dealer says good bye, now is your bike and so is your problem). I completed the bike with my money with XM module, garage door opener, nav. cd's, nav. manual, and dual headlamps. Ugly plate bracket on lower fender is on trash, and license plate is installed just under tour pack on the plate over lamp.
On the other side, the new gasket part # is not available yet on the parts catalogs or system, dealer says me is a new part # stamped on gasket, I saw it, but unafortunately I didn't take a picture, and I think MoCo is waiting if this new gasket works fine finally, and if so, they will officially release part #. Is only available for latest leaks warranty and wait if works properly. I said dealer if cylinder looks ok, keep it the same(I breaked-in properly with a lot of patience), but MoCo insist very strictly replace the rear jug and rings, even if looks ok, because a defectly batch (uneven or improperly surfaces machined and iron sleeve-aluminum jug adhesion, not sure but probably installed from factory), may be by VIN # they assure that. In fact, cylinder was ok, but a new is already installed by MoCo suggestion. And I have a question for you guys, What means "rocker covers clearanced"? I know every part of a bike, but "clearanced" is a popular term for what? I really hope this was the final remedy of our leaking problems, and smile returns to us drinking a lot of beer. On the photo, this is my other leaking machine. :drink: :drink: :drink: :drink: :drink:

Hi Johnny.

I have to say I'm amazed that even just over the border from the US in Mexico, you get the full HDI spec..... But it *should* have come with the Nav CDs, even the ones in Europe came with those (for Europe, obviously!) and if the North American CDs cover Mexico, it should have come with them.  Like you, none of us in Europe got the Nav System manual, but most people complained and the dealer ordered one at no charge.

You need to get rid of that terrible rear licence plate bracket though!  It just unbolts, and any of the fender tips bolt straight on in its place - the illuminated ones use the same plug (inside the rear light lens) that the ugly licence plate lamp used.  Also you need to fit the domestic rear light lens, to light the licence plate legally.

"Rocker covers clearanced" refers to the fact that on some of the early models (I don't think it would affect yours, as you have the black SE badges) had a problem with the rockers striking the inside of the rocker cover, so they cover had to be "clearanced" - meaning some metal ground away to make sure the rockers had space not to hit the cover.

Add my 07 SE to the list. :( Took it into Ocala HD for a 5000 mile service and was notified within moments that my rear cylinder was leaking. Within 30 minutes they told me that both cylinders would probably need to be replace, that the factory was aware of this type problem, and they'd like me to leave the bike to start the tear-down. Later: both cylinders ordered. Initially I thought I'd have the heads and new cylinders "diamond cut," you know  ... to save the labor cost? Today I changed my mind! Another 110 pulled in while I was checking to see if my parts had arrived and guess what ... same problem. This was on a 08 Ultra SE!!! Now I've read all these threads, phoned the dealership and cancel my "diamond cut" order! I've very little confidence that this is the only top end tear-down my FLHTCUSE2 will undergo!  Boy this sucks! >:(

MY RED JESTER WITH 6625 MILES WENT INTO THE SHOP LAST WEEK.  I GOT A CALL FROM THE DEALER TODAY SAYING THAT A "NEW GASKET" IS COMING OUT IN JANUARY.  I ASKED IF HE HAD A PART NUMBER. HE SAID NO, BUT HARLEY TOLD HIM THAT IT WAS THE THIRD STYLE GASKET FOR THE 110 MOTORS.  I WILL UPDATE YOU ALL WHEN I KNOW MORE.  THANKS,  SCOTT
