Ask TC to check out his V-Rod forum for history on them.  Large audience there all of whom will have had plenty of horsepower and opportunity to tear up the part.  Certainly a larger cohort than whatever incidences might have caught the memory of a single dealer.

I've not read of any failures on the Vrods, though I'm sure it's not a part that will last indefinitely.  And some of the young guys on the Vrod forum do some serious clutch dumping.

Steve...since your friend has seen a failure or two, it will be interesting to see if it was a fluke, or becomes a pattern.  There are a LOT of these things being installed on 96" and 110" bikes, particularly on the Hdforum site, which I occasionally visit and read.

That at least seems probative TC.  Sure as hell if an audience to a part were going to complain about its service it would be audience on a chat site.  It's also a much larger audience then might be witnessed by any single dealer.  Too easy to have the world as viewed across one bike lift be an anomaly.

Every one is worried about a problem that no one has had . Seeem a waste of time. Lets all just ride clean chrome andpolesh and have fun. That is what it is all about and if it breaks fix it just like every thing else in life.  Billy

Chip, have been working on the phone with wonks all day.  Hard to shift gears back to good normal people.  I'll try again:

TC, sounds like we'd get straighter chit from a bunch of good old boys chatting about bikes.  Lot better than a guy with one lift that just might have seen a problem.

GMR:

Got a few thousand miles on the Ultra since installing the IDS.........recently pulled the wheels to have new Michelins installed, and the rubber isolators looked as new.

Also have not heard of a failure on any of the sites I visit.

As others mentioned they've been on the VRods for a while..........

Any details on the exact failure?

What a huge upgrade. Best bang fot the buck. Have not got too many miles logged yet but I thought I had a whole new bike after the install of the IDS.

Same here!  Best $200.00 I've ever spent on a motorcycle!

I installed the IDS pulley on my 07 roadglide about 2000 miles ago, and I agree that it was the best money spent on any Harley I have owned. The isolation pulley tames the engine pulses you can idle down to rpms in fifth or sixth I would not necessarily endorse. I note that it also takes away some, but not all of the gear whine. I don't buy the theory though that it makes it shift easier especially into first gear. I am convinced that the pulley will lengthen the life of the drive train. It is amazing to me how the 60’s technology finally made a comeback!  :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21:

For my Ultra, this was the icing on the cake for eliminating 99% of the tranny's gear whine.  Much smoother shifting also!

Billy:

I called Spectro and they found a Distrubutor and Dealer in my area.

You may have to do the same:

Alright!  These rave reviews of the IDS are killing me.  Mine's been on for two weeks but the bike is in storage for the winter at the dealer that did the install.  I'm afraid I won't remember how it rode before the install by the time I get on it again.....
