Pushrods was my guess.  Cam cover would not matter and there are no o-rings between the head and rocker support on the bullet TP Rocker box.  The rocker support is part of the box and the oil seperator/breather is very different than stock.

Scott, is there a reason you went with Cycle Rama roller rockers instead of the TP engineering ones?

i always adjust pushrods, then install cam cover, just makes it easier than rotating with rear tire, and i bet you know the way to adjust rear pushrods, turn engine to a certain point, then adjust front pushrods. that was what i aws refferring to.

I had the primary cover off, so I rotated the engine from the primary side...

It would not seem to me there would be clearance to pull the rocfker shaft retaining bolt on the rear cylinder...between the rocker box and the frame???

There are a number of sequences of assembly that will work...you just have to know there is an issue.  I made the mistake of assuming the S&S adjustable pushrods would shorten enough to be installed after the rocker boxes had been installed and after the liifter covers were installed - which turned out to be a wrong assumption.  Once I got that far, the simple solution was to pull the lifter covers back off...like I said...lesson learned.  In hingsight, I would have slid the pushrods in place prior to assembling the rocker box to the head.

For someone only wanting to change cams (and leave the top end together) pulling the lifter covers would be the least amount of work.

Hi Scott, not criticizing, you've done a great job!

There is only one bolt that holds the shaft and that's on the right side, so plenty of clearance to take that bolt out.  You are correct on the other bolt, you have to put the left side 5/16" bolt(s) in with the rocker box due to clearance issues.

You are correct that changing cams by removing the lifter block covers would certainly save some time by not having to remove the tank and rocker box covers.  I am not sure that works for all adj. pushrods and for high lift cams.  I am getting ready to put in a .660" lift cam in the next week and I will verify.

after about 5 seconds, oil pressure occured...it idled smoothly for about 1 minute at 1k.  (again, imagine a rumble in the background)  then I shut her down...made me very happy!

Scot,
Great job. :2vrolijk_21: I can't imagine which is worse the headache you went thru with your motor or getting it all back together. firing it up, then having that weather and not being able to ride. Wishing you an early thaw. :drink:
