I was w/7th Comm when stationed there. Can't remember how/why but when I first got there I got assigned an admin job because of my ability to type. Then when I went to serve my Mess/Maint duty they found out I could cook so I worked in chow hall for awhile. Went out on a cruise to Philippines and Australia and found out having dual MOS' wasn't all it was cut out to be. While on the ship deployed they had me cooking while all the rest of my unit was taking it easy, then when we got to Australia I was humping radio's. Needless to say I quickly forgot how to cook and on the way back I chilled w/the rest of my unit.

Ah yes, the classic rookie mistake. I think we all learned to, Never let 'them' know what you're good at, because you'll be stuck doing it forever, and Never let 'them' know what you like, unless you never want to do it... Mess duty is such a very important thing to be part of, but is a very thankless duty.
We work with and support some of the 7TH Comm equipment. They're just down the block from us. They're another bunch of hard-working Marines.
Take care.
