Why do you replace yourself ?
If it's your dealer, he'll be responsible for this job and he need to assume the warranty another time  :nixweiss:

:-\ I have had it, very very discused over my grips. As you all have seen, awhile back I posted mine were out only a month after I got the bike. I bought the  UC out of town and have been taking it a home town dealer. I am wondering if I am getting the " Treatment " for not buying it there. Anyways, 3 months ago I too it in for replacement, 8 hrs later ( all so had the dreaded rear gasket repleased for oil leak ). Don't have the parts will order them.   Month later came back and 8 hrs later, wrong part will re order the right part. This month I was back there to get it fix again and figured I would go ahead and get my Rinehart's Duel put on.....8 hrs later.....wrong part will order the right ones. I am so pissed I could just Zhit myself !!!!   :-X :-X :-X

I think I would have a discussion with the general manager and if that does not work then I would simply take my business someplace else.

I doubt you're getting "the treatment"...these dealers know that the CVO's aren't available everywhere, at the time you want to buy, so I don't think they hold against people for buying elsewhere.  Besides, they are getting the warranty work, which is money in their pockets.  I think it's more a case of incompetent service manager, or more likely, parts guys/gals.  I have generally found that is more productive, if you know what's wrong with the bike before you take it in (like the grips), to know the part number yourself, and make sure they order the correct one.  Then call them back a few days later to see what the status of the order is....

Having a matter of fact talk, in a nice way (at least initially) with the GM, as mentioned here, would be in order here as well.  If you get a bad feeling from him/her, find yourself another dealer.  Incompetent people on the parts counter seems to the rule, rather than the exception, from my experience.  Buy the parts manual for your bike, at least, and the service manual and supplemental for the SE bike, if you have not already done so.  You'll be ahead of the game.

My grips failed on Lil Mermaid - '07 SEUC -  in Dec, getting them replaced now, since she's in the shop for a multitude of other issues noted in another post.

I also have them on my '99 FXDWG. Put them on when they 1st came out and they still work great, altho I don't ride that bike very often...

Not sure if there is any validity in it, but the last replacement of my heated grips, the mechanic working on the bike said that because of the vibration in the bike the elements get broken easily.

I can see how this happens, my bars vibrate quite a bit if my hands aren't holding on.
The 'trainee' technician that always seems to work on my Lil' Mermaid said - "They just stopped working, so we'll replace 'em"   :huepfenlol2:

My 07's heated grips both went (on the coldest weekend of the year).  Dealer indicated they have replaced all of the CVO's original grips.  Javalina replaces the entire grip (not just the heated part).  Have ridden all winter with heat.

Glad to see it is not just me. My grips were never getting that warm from the start. Nor was my seat. After complaining and complaining they finally fixed the seat I have well you get it but grips still not right. They had the bike for 2 weeks and when i picked it up the grips only warmed up to what I would say was a 1. They said they replaced the left controller but no good. I will be waiting for response today. :nixweiss:

My dealer is very good about fixing these things with little hassle.  Did have to wait for two weeks for the new grips (both) to come in.  The new ones have been used a lot.  Will get very hot.

My dealer who really great most of the time just replaced the left grip saying it was the master and had all of the control. I can't really say they were replaced so this time I will make a little mark to be sure they are replaced if they so they did. Bummer you have to doubt the truth with someone you would like to trust.
Oh well. :nervous:
