That sheds a new light.  When he'd written "in the next several months" I assume the ride was a few months away.  In the spring.  If you're considering a winter or early spring trip you're definitely not riding and I'm definitely nuts for suggesting it.

Next time I pass through, I'll get you one Spyder.  It may be a year or two, but I'll do it.  Been through three times in the last two years and you're right, it is a great road to ride.
Tks, JC.  I regretted not getting one, but at the time one more t-shirt didn't make sense.  I bet you ride that road when heading cross-country.  I wonder if there is ever a cop on that road.  :nixweiss:  har!  spyder

Lost my marbles a long time ago.  Found a small few of them though and carry them in my pocket.  Occasionally take them out and play with them Captain Queeg like.  It's endearing (isn't it :nixweiss: ?).

Well, as a matter of fact......leave it to J.C. to find out.  When we left Cripple Creek (me, Andy, Ernie, Jon, Terrie) I'm leading the pack but they're all right there with me, doing what ever speed we were doing.  As we come up over a rise in the road........there on the left, 200' ahead on the left sholder that radar looked bigger than life.  He turned around and gave chase......I was already slowing down.  He passed the whole pack to get  up to me.....pulled me over! :nixweiss:  And, to add fuel to the fire........that tickent ended up on my Calif. driving record.  The tickets that Ernie, Andy got coming back from Nelson ended up on their Calif. driving records.  I was told that the states are starting to share that information.

They've always shared the info when it pertained to my driving license.  One time in the '60's, they were waiting for me when I returned from Florida.  Man, that's cold.  :nervous: har!  spyder

A number of years ago, a friend who lived in Texas blew off a ticket he got in Florida.  Several months later, Hertz refused to rent him a car in Washington, DC because he had not paid the ticket!

We are  planning to ride Route 50 across Nevada in the next several months, and will tow our bikes behind my F-150.

When we get to a departure point, what do we do with our truck and trailer?  Do we leave them in a hotel parking lot; a Harley dealership parking lot; at a truck stop, put them in a storage area?

How in the hell did this turn into a "speeding ticket", topic?  First things first, don't be so conservative that you would transport a $30,000.00 Motorsickle in a $2000.00 Trailer.  They're junk.  If you can afford the best Motorsickle, you can afford the best trailer.  FEATHERLITE.  I would recommend the 1610 Model, if you're haulin' only one Motorsickle.  Pulls perfect, and is more areodynamic than anything on the market.  Then, purchase a $30.00 "Tounge Lock", and forget about it.  Unhook, and take your "Cage" wherever you want.  When you get back, your Motorsickle and your Trailer will be there, just like you left it.  ;) There endeth the lesson.  Later--HUBBARD

Hubbard,

We will be hauling two bikes: my 2006 Ultra Classic SE and my wife's 2008 Softail Deluxe.  What's your recommendation?

I agree whole heartedly!  "The loneliest road ion America" is a fabulous ride - a place where one can find themself... Done it twice and can't wait to do it again.  I also agree that late spring or early fall is the best time for it.

As for a place to leave your tow vehicle and trailer, I have been all over North America and have never been stuck for a place to store mine... So far, never had to pay a penny, but always brought back a souvenir T-shirt for my host.  I have left my truck and trailer at hotels, dealerships, churches, trailer sales sites and even marinas who from spring to fall usually have lots of room for storage.  There's a few ideas for you.

The road is a must do ride, so make the time to do it at some point.

Take care & ride safe,
Grizzly

Go to the closest airport, park in long term, unload and ride the bike out, paying the parking stub you just got as you drove in. Then go back after your trip, get a ticket as you go in, load up and leave paying, again the ticket you just got as you entered.
Very cheap, somewhat secure parking. I have friends who do this in Miami, regularly. Only thing is, you can only unload and leave and return on one bike, second bike, both ways would not have a ticket to pay.

Personally, for that combination, I would recommend the FEATHERLITE 1625.  Same as the 1610, but has a tandem axle, with electric brakes.  12' long, 6' 7" wide inside, your choice of 6', or 6' 6", height, and a 3' V-Nose, which has compartment for Leathers and Helments, etc.  Yeah, FEATHERLITE is the most expensive, but you get what you pay for.  No other Trailer on the Planet holds the resale value a FEATHERLITE does.  All Aluminum, no rust.  I posted this information years ago, here, but can't seem to find it now.  I'm sure Twolane could find it, and repost.  At any rate, I've owned 8 or 9 different Trailers over the years, always wanted a FEATHERLITE, but just refused to pay up for one.  Long story short, the last Trailer I owned before I got my FEATHERLITE, was a 12', single axle CONTINENTAL, with a flat faced bulkhead, as opposed to the FEATHERLITE, V-Nose.  In 2000, I went to Daytona in the Spring, and in the Fall.  Spring, with the CONTINENTAL, and Fall with the FEATHERLITE.  At that time I had a 2000, GMC Denali.  I can't recall the miles from Beckley, WV, to the Adam's Mark Hotel in Daytona, but I do remember I used either 16 or 19 Gallons less fuel, round trip, pulling the FEATHERLITE, as opposed to the CONTINENTAL, which BTW, the FEATHERLITE tracked twice as good as the CONTINENTAL, at high speed.  I'm talkin' 90-100 MPH, packin' an Ultra-Classic, Leathers, Spare Tire, 5 gal. of "Blue Fuel", etc.  In all fairness, I must confess I hold Dealer Agreements with FEATHERLITE and CONTINETNAL Trailers.  Find your nearest FEATHERLITE Dealer, and ask him to let you demonstrate the FEATHERLITE, with both your Motorsickles in it.  I do it all the time.  I'll admit I sell more CONTINENTAL Motorcycle Trailers than I do the FEATHERLITE's, but FEATHERLITE is by far the BEST Trailer.  There endeth the lesson.  Pay up and buy you a FEATHERLITE.  :2vrolijk_21: Later--HUBBARD

HUBBARD,

Thanks for the information.

The 1625 is no longer on the FEATHERLITE web site.  I contacted FEATHERLITE, and they do not make the 1625 anymore.  They did give me the name and number of the dealer closest to Omaha.

Here is the dealer’s web site: http://www.sunshinestrailers.com

I’m checking the web for new and used in the Omaha area.

Damn, that doesn't say much for my product knowledge of the product I represent, does it?  While I am COO of all our Dealerships, I obiviously missed that model change.  I will research Monday morning, and report back to you.  I know we sold a FEATHERLITE 1625, in September of this year, but it may have been in inventory for a while.  I apologize for my lack of current product knowledge, concerning that particular product. However, I allow my Managers to Manage, and I focus on the margins, of each location, and what I can do to help each Manager increase those numbers.  Whatever those numbers are, it's never enough in Business, if you catch my drift.  Merry Christmas to you and yours.  :2vrolijk_21: Later--HUBBARD

HUBBARD,

Here's hoping you talk to a different salesgirl and get a different answer!  I also sent e-mails to the other two dealers in the Omaha area; but, have not received any response:

Kens Trailer Sales - 88 miles
2501 S. 13th Street
S. Hwy 81
Norfolk, NE 68701
(402)379-0490

kenstrailersales@telebeep.com

Mid-States Utility Trailer Sales Inc. - 92 miles
3200 Hwy 75 N

Sioux City, IA 51105
(712)252-0724
(800)369-2653
dougross@cableone.net

If I don't hear back by Monday, I'll call each of them.

Thanks for keeping involved.  I also found Featherlite has seveal options to finance or lease a trailer.
