My 05  :bananarock: I bought wrecked, had a hard time trying to decide to fix it or part it out. Finally bit the bullet and fixed it. Never had any problems out of it and saved a ton of money.

My new addition the 03 SERK was a little different, Shopped for a while and found several used with a bunch of miles and nothing that really made me take a second look. Then I found one about 100 miles from home with 6100 miles, Had all the extras I wanted. .........then the Easter Bunny left it in the Garage for me. :orange:

OK, here one for you.

I was working in South East Asia for 16 years and September of 2007 I visited my parents in Grand Rapids MI. At the Wild Boar HD dealer I saw a FLHRSE4 TW Blue and Cobalt. Sweet....

So now I'm back in Asia finishing up the two year project in Mumbai India. No new contracts happening and Thailand just started a new law that says you can only stay in Thailand for 90 days in a floating 6 month window. Guess I'm going to have to leave Thailand and since I had not been to the USA for more then a 3 weeks for the better part of 16 years I figured the time was right for me to see the USA this summer.

So early January I started looking for a FLHRSE4, Austin dealer had a TW Blue/Colbat on Jan 1 but it was sold by Jan 4. GR Michigan Dealer didn't have any so I started searching the internet. Found one in Arizona and a few other in the south east but everyone was 2 to 3K over list.

So I went to Phnom Pehn Cambodia earlier January for a couple weeks, I wanted to have my last stay in Thailand for a while be the month of Feb. Well, while searching the internet in mid Jan all of a sudden the FLHRSE4 Black Diamond/Silver bikes started showing up.

I found one in Ohio, Nebraska, and New Hampshire. I sent emails to the Ohio and New Hampshire dealers asking the price and the Ohio dealer (Neidengrad's HD) was selling it at MSRP. Too good to pass up since all other dealers that I had prices from where 2k+ over MSRP.

I bought via email with a credit card, cut my last stay in Thailand short so I could see the bike late Feb and had it shipped to Austin Texas, shipping took forever with the bad weather early March in Ohio and the midwest so it arrived today in Austin.

But I was very lucky to buy my FLHRSE4 at MSRP.  :orange: :mango: :bananarock:

I have a legacy ride - my father has (as of 11 Apr) terminal melanoma.  He bought the 2003 FLHRSEI2 new - and put a bit over 11k on it and worshiped it...it is absolutely mint.

When he was unable to ride anymore as the cancer progressed - he gifted it to me.  :-\

I will ride it until I can no longer handle it - and then it goes to my son.

I am new to this board and new to everything Harley.  I bought my first bike in 1962, a Yamaha YDS2 250 2cycle. A couple of years later I bought a 4 cycle Kawasaki 550 and have worked my way up through a series of Japanese bikes.  In 2002 I bought a new Goldwing, partly because it was made in Ohio and partly because it was a performance demon for a big touring bike.

When Honda announced the closing of the Maryville, Ohio motorcycle plant it bothered me that I was riding a bike from a company that was closing it's American manufacturing facility.  I wanted a touring bike because my wife and I travel quite a bit on it.  Victory and Harley were the only two companies making touring bikes in America and the Vision is just too strange looking for me.

My wife and I each wanted as much performance as we could get and still have factory warranty, so we bought a 2008 SE Ultra, the 105th ann color.  We even got a good trade in for my Wing, so now we are "between" bikes waiting for our new Harley to come in.  I am looking forward to the bike and my wife is already picking out jackets and such.

I appreciate the open discussion about the 110 motor.  I have never owned a Harley before, heck, the only time I ever rode one was in 2005 at Sturgis when I took a demo ride on an Electra glide and was not impressed with the power (that is why the 110 motor).  Any way, the problems that are discussed are a lot like the problems discussed about every other bike I have owned.  As long as one knows about them in advance you can work around them or at least not be caught totally by surprise.

The bike is not even here yet and I have already given a long list of things I want added to it to the dealer.  Actually not such a long list because the bike comes with so much standard that I have to try hard to find things to add to make it mine.

I am a very lucky guy because my wife pushed for the SE over a stock bike because she is more into the performance thing than I am.

The dealer says I will be riding it before the end of April.

I hope that's the case.  You'll enjoy it.  I like my SE better than my Goldwing.  That's not completely fair so say, however, since my Goldwing was a 1982 Interstate GL1100.  NO comparison whatsoever.  Welcome to the site.  Make sure to get involved here and you'll have a great time.

I had to lotto it while in Japan through the military car sales.  I was looking at a bike that had a big engine a big @$$ and numbers to back it up in the neighborhood of 100/100.  The only bikes living in that neighborhood were the Jap bikes.  I have always loved the springer as it is the only TRUE Harley (hold all arguments please) it is the only one that no other major manufacturer has even attempted to copy.  I put my name on the waiting list in October '06 for the SE since it was close...no RSD or 240 but 200 and a springer....ohhhh baby and it was the first stock HD that approached 100/100.  The bikes didn't come available until March and I was awarded one...it was built on June 1, but I was still in Japan.  I had a friend pick it up put some miles on it, put some after market goodies on and then I got to ride it in August for 4 days then I was off to Germany.  I had is shipped in October and then garaged it for the winter but in Feb it started getting nice so I registered it and have been riding every non-raining day we have had regardless of the temp...all 9 of them.

I ordered a 2007 BMW K1200GT motorcycle and was waiting for it to be shipped to the States.  Bike was coming loaded with ABS, anti-lock brakes, cruise control, power windshield, heated everything....
I just kept fighting the urge to get another Harley even though I found a way to hit every dealer in 120 miles while waiting for the BMW.  Well, I saw my first Screaming Eagle Road King at a dealer about 35 miles from home and almost bought it on the spot.  Not sure if I could afford it or what the wife would say but I was that close to just buying it.  Dealer kept saying how rare they are and he would not budge on his price.  I dragged myself out of the dealership.  Later that day I cancelled the BMW that was on order even though I risked losing my deposit.  Chicago BMW (the dealer) gave my deposit back to me without a problem.
I got on the phone during the next 24 hours, found a dealer about 90 miles away that had two in stock (red and blue bikes) and then sat the wife down that evening.  (She couldn't understand why I was even considering anything but a Harley.)  The next day, we checked out both bikes and I bought one of them.  I justified the Screaming Eagle due to the bigger engine, the bling factor, the little things like cruise control, alarm... and my goal of not having any down time in tricking out the engine and violating the warranty.  I just want to ride.
No complaints.  Dealers never pressured me ever!  Best customer service I have had in any retail establishment.
Side note:  Over the last weekend I was riding country roads in Wisconsin and passed a BMW K1200GT parked on the side of the road with two people having a quick cigarette.  A little while later they passed me on a country road doing 130+mph while I was cruising with my feet up doing 70+mph.  Still glad I was on the Harley rather than the BMW.  Nuff said!

Sean,
So sorry to hear about your father and our prayers go out to him.  Heck of a way to get a motorcycle, but you're right, it now becomes a legacy ride to pass down to your son.   :)  I'm sure your dad is very proud of you and the fact that you're going to do that.  Ride safe.

Sadly Dad died the 14th...it was good for him to be out of pain, but I am really missing him.

I am hoping the bike gets here tomorrow or Sunday - it has taken ID Transport over 5 weeks since pickup to deliver (was picked up the 21st of MARCH)...

Running out of patience.

I got my 07 B/O SEUC on a well thought out plan. At the time I owned an 03 FXDL that I bought used with the intention of the wife wanting to learn to ride after some time as a BSR.  Well that idea never panned out so while on leave to Pa, to visit my parents I had a Ultra reserved for rent.  My wife and I rode the Ultra around Pa. for a week while visiting, and she enjoyed the creature comforts of the rented Ultra, but she complained about the lack of power compared to my FXDL.

After arriving back home from leave we went to the local dealer and asked if they were getting in any of the Screamin Eagle versions of the Ultra, the saleman said he wasn't sure but if they got one in he would give me a call.  My wife still wasn't to keen on the idea of an Ultra for lack of power even thought if had comfort.  I told her not to worry we would take it out before we talked any $$ deals to see how we liked the performance.  A week after the talk with the salesman he gave me a call at work and said my bike came in and was ready for pickup.  I told him I wasn't going to buy it unless I could take it out for a test ride first. He said no problem when will you be in. I said we could stop by after work that evening.

So I call the wife at work and she says "we are only going to LOOK I don't want you to get to excited"  lol. We go to the dealer and immediately I fall in lust with the bike, but the wife isn't that impressed with the color in the showroom. But she still wants to see how it rides so I tell the salesman to get it ready for our test ride. After they move a half dozen bike to get it out the front door, the sun is still shining and the Orange paint just "POPS" and my wife goes WOW look at that paint job. It looks 100 time better out in the natural sunlight.  Now we go for the test ride and I have to admin I may have taken it a little hard for a brandnew bike but DAMN she was AWESOME!!!  We get back from the test and I ask my wife what do you think?  She says when can we take it? I ask the saleman what kind of deal can we make on this bike and he says he can't work numbers on the CVO's and the manager will be in in the morning.

The next day we left work for lunch went to the dealer talked with the manager and I rode the bike home two hours later.  The deal was $35,000 OTD plus throw in an extra headset and two new helmets. At first he said NO-WAY, but then I reminded him the I was Head road Capt for his dealers HOG chapter and it would look pretty bad with the other dealers plate frame on my bike because they said they would made the deal.  He tried to call my bluff so I pulled out my phone and called his competitor from his office, before the other dealer could answer he agreed to the deal.

After 7000 miles and a replacement motor I still wouldn't give up my 07 B/O SEUC

My story is really lame.   :nixweiss:

I had a perfectly good black (hard to find color) 2003 RK Anniversary edition - didn’t they only make a 1,000 of them? Just kidding.  That bike was really great , ran like a champ and, all the better, that my ex hated it the instant I brought it home.

Fast forward to 2007.  At the end of August last year, I got a hair up my arse and decided wouldn’t it be nice if I just bought a new Anniversary edition each five years!  So, I did.  Well, I never really got used to the color of that Duracell after having the very rare color of black but the bike ran well and the 2nd week I had it I went on a 1500 mile trip from Seattle to Jasper National Park in Canada over labor day weekend.  Again, it ran like a top so no complaints.  So, earlier this month I brought that bike in for its 5,000 mile service.  While I was at the dealer I happened to walk by the CUSE3 sitting on the floor for a ridiculous price.  That color really grabbed me.  Once again, that hair came back and it was an itch I just had to scratch.

I made my offer (read: if you believe that I have a bridge I’ll sell you) and waited for them to work the numbers on the trade in and work up the sales paperwork and conduct the credit check bla bla.  At one point, I’m like “I hope my credit sucks today” so I don’t spend this amount of money but naturally it was meant to be.  The sales guy came outside to tell me everything is in order and I’m sure I helped make his quota for the month.  :nervous:

As part of the deal, I had them take the shorty antennas’, leather water bottle pack, my V&H slip-on’s etc., off my other 2008 and put them on the new SE.  Oh and I had them transfer the rest of my pre-paid maintenance contract from the Ultra Ann. to the new SE as well.  :bananarock:

All and all, I paid a lot of money for a bike that I like.  Interestingly, I am still spending money to get it the way I want e.g., new recurve windshield so my eye balls don’t pop out of their sockets, heat deflectors, new headlamp bulbs etc.
