I had sent an e-mail regarding this problem to American Iron Magazine last week and in response to a letter written to them. Based on their response they had not seen much of a problem. Just a few minutes ago I received a response from American Iron stating that at the time that issue was written (several months prior to the issues release) they had not seen the problems HOWEVER since that time they have received a lot more info.

From the response to my e-mail "Lots has happened since that issue went to print. (We work way in advance. For example, we're just finishing the May issue.) Donny is putting together a full story on this problem with the 110s. It is a big problem."

I was very happy to see that AIMag is behind us and looking to dive deeper. I'm hopeful that the press will exert some pressure to get HD to bring this to a satisfactory resolution.

I guess in my small mind I continue to envision a system within MOCO that keeps the dealerships informed with the latest information - especially when they have a chronic problem to fix.  For every post that states their dealer has told them there is a new cylinder and new cylinder part number - there is another post that states their dealer has told them the opposite.  It still seem inconceivable to me there are so many dealers that state they have no knowledge of the problem, other dealers that state knowledge of new components or some "fix", and others that know of no new components or "fix".  All in all, not a good example of acceptable communication, much less an acceptable response to the problem.

I have no memory of believing in fairy tails as a young child...I wonder why I do now?  Wishful thinking, I guess...

It's not even that simple Scott! They can't even figure out what story to tell. They say they're getting new cylinder P/N. Check this out:

From '07 SERK Parts Manual:

17285-07 Cylinder Assembly , w/16195-99A (Dowel Pin Rin, ring-4), Black (2)

They don't list the cylinder only.

Also from my Parts Manual, the Head Gasket P/N is 16775-99B, Gasket, Cylinder Head. WTF???

Now check this one out:

November 2007 rear cylinder replaced with Part # 17285-07A and head gasket 16801-07A.  2,000 miles later, leaks again...going in 1/29/08 for repairs the second time, along with letter sent to MoCo with customer ticket # stating if MoCo can't fix it this time...reimburse me my $$ back or new (different model of course) motorcycle.

Good luck to all with the leaky 100's..... :-\

Notice the cylinder assembly P/N. Sure looks like a new P/N to me. GR states that goes back to Nov, '07. They're still scrambling to replace cylinders with what now??? And the head gaskets with what now??? ???

It's not fairy tales. It's a complete non-fix for this and they're still dicking us around in the process of hoping this just goes away! >:( ;)

Howie,

That's just it...by dumb luck they could fix this someday and 2 years from now there would still be some dealers that never knew the problem existed and other dealers that wouldn't know what the fix was...   ???

Howie,

I believe the -99 number is the top end gasket kit with all of the soft parts. When they did mine, the kit contains 3 3/4 and 3 7/8 inch head gaskets along with rocker box gaskets, push rod tube o-rings and all the others. They throw away the 88 and 95 head gaskets and put in the 110 gaskets. It's a waste, but that's the way they do it.

This is great news. If a magazine such as AIM takes up the matter, the MoCo will respond. I am sure some folks at the MoCo are already making excuses and putting out feelers for a new job. Maybe Harley finally make it right.

Thanks Chief for sending me and others the pm to get the AIM campaign started!

I was at dealer today and they have my motor taken apart one liner moved pretty good and other a lil. I talked to the motor man before they had mine apart and he talked to me about swiching some of the valve parts to a old durable style that was better than the new ones, and today he said that he looked at my heads and they do have the old durable style valve parts with better springs. So that means just a check out and valve job for heads.Hopefully cylinders get here soon and they can finish my motor before he starts racing. ride safe jdo

Went to dealer to check progress on repair ,and they have parts to put bike back together ,but was waiting on torque plates to make sure new cyl's are straight. They had heads apart and said valves and springs had the better stuff but valve seats were the old soft ones and wouldn't hold up like the hard ones. Hopefully by the next time this comes apart they will have harden seats in our style of casting ,motor man said that would be cheaper buy castings than reseat my heads. ride safe JDO
