So Don, from the looks of it, anyone with some advanced mechanical skills and the proper tools, and able to read the manual, should be able to recreate your build without too much difficulty. I am assuming you didn't go into the bottom end, so the crank balancing or other issues are not a problem for us backyard builders.

I really like your overall package, love the red. Overall I think what you did mimics what I would like to achieve. Low to mid range performance and reliability for the long haul.

Of course I still want to add a 6 speed and drop the overall ratio. But maybe with the HP and low end torque increase the ratio would not be such a big deal.

I don't recall, which 6 speed did you use and did you change the final drive ratio?

Between you and Chief now their will be a lot of "Jonesing" going on here, and lets throw a little Hoga$m in for good measure.

Duane, the combination is easily available and easily repeatable.

Those heads come on eBay occasionally for less than Harley prices.  So one could take a bit of time and save some coin there.  Same with options for roller rockers.

Axtell can work the heads to adjust/mate to their cylinder/piston package.  Their package is supplied with a full set of gaskets and rings.  One vendor that way if one were so inclined for all the top end hard parts.

This 598 cam does seem to be a good choice for this combination.  I was afraid it might be in just a bit late.  Didn't really think it would.  But it's human nature to worry I guess.  In the end it appears a great choice though.  Axtell had a different recommendation actually.  Something jsut a bit smaller for a torque build.  But I already had this so was committed ot using it at least initially.  Fortunately it is doing as well as I'd hoped it would.  So a cam and gear drive kit to be acquired if one goes gear drive.

Harley's new oil pump and plate combo accessry part number is good option and priced better than the Feuling stuff.  One could go either way there.  Throw in a set of pushrods and lifters and their 50mm throttle body and you really could be home.

Extras that could be done or not would be things like the roller rockers and cylinder studs.  eBay scores on that stuff made it a much cheaper proposition for me.  My discount version of this build included only having $400 in the purchase of the new HTCC CNC heads and $250-275 in the complete set of TP rockers boxes and roller rockers.  Got the cylinder studs on eBay for $25.  Cheap compression releases and cylinder head bridges there also.  The whole re-do was made much more palatable with some effective shopping and the willingness to take a bit of time to collect the parts.

Since Don went with Dave Mackie on the top end of his build and it's looking like Mackie straightend out the disaster Zippers had created in dealing with Don, I've been piggybacking on this thread because me and Bubba_T have been doing a very similar upgrade to Bubba's 03 SERK.
Here's where Bubba_T and I are as of today along with the money spent to date

Set of used CVO 103 Cylinder heads on the site - - - - - $300 sold the take-offs for same price so this zero's out
Diamond Cut for heads and cylinders plus shipping - - - - $494
Complete top end from Dave Mackie - - - - - - - - - - - -$3,150 (included Cal State sales tax and shipping)
Included in Mackie kit
Head porting and polishing
Competition valve job
DM/JE 20 degree dished domed piston kit (incudeds rings)
Torque,hone,3875 cylinders / fit pistons
Machine for compression releases
Polished high flow black tulip valves
Titanium collars and Hi-po springs and keepers
Rowe Cast Iron guides
Rowe seals
TC598G gear drive cam set
S&S 288908 gear set
S&S 288901 installation kit
Fueling Rivera oil pump
Fueling Lifters
Compression releases
C-9721 & c-9780 gasket kits
Stock throttle body sent out to be bored to 50mm - - - swapped a blank TB for a set of performance muffs
Set of Bassani Mufflers to go with Bassani head pipes already in hand   $200 (included shipping)

Bubba_T's O3 SERK already has the H-D SE 6-speed

Will post the dyno numbers and seat of pants feel in a couple weeks when we're done. So far however, it looks like we're keeping this build in the $5k range, Our expectations based on several conversations with Dave Mackie are to go from numbers in the mid 90's to low 120's. And of course as Don has pointed out in his build, Mackie's numbers are street performance numbers, not dyno bragging rights numbers. Also Bubba didn't want to go with a 2 into 1 as he figures he'll have real good power and still be able to pull off the sleeper routine with duals and a trailer hitch on the back.

From the rear.

The single pipe on the rear is growing on me.  It may be the width of the Elite3 compensates a little.   :nixweiss:  Do you have a 150 on the rear?

Anyway, the SERG has some stiff competition.

No Bob.  Just stock size in the Elite 3.

I was surprised how quickly I came to accept the single pipe look.  Was afraid it would be an arduous mental ordeal making my old brain change gears and learn to like it.  Instead it's been pretty darned ok from just about moment one.  That it sounds good and runs good didn't hurt any though :2vrolijk_21: .

Let me help Don.
Should you ever decide to sell the SEEG here is the issue you will have.
"Ah Mr. Carey, that's a beautiful bike but I wanted one with the stock wheels.
You know, kinda like your SERG over there, I like original stock wheels."

Not that you would consider selling the SEEG, but hypothecially speaking!
