Yep, to the ground is the way to go. These are the Kuryakin fittings that Pete was talking about. I can shorten the backplate mounts to fit them behind, but I'd have to get the right length banjo bolt made. ;)

I might see if this one works out. I think there's a hose connection at the rear of the contraption. Looks interesting. Same issue with the banjo though. ;)

The application is 99-06, maybe the newer motor parts in in the development.

Thanks Scott. The "stands" that bolt the backplate to the head, are hollow and lead to 2 small ports on top of the throat to the TB inlet, all internally. You can't see the passages in those pics. But the "stands" would get cut back the thickness of the banjo fittings. And custom banjo bolts made I guess. Maybe the bolts that came with it could work. Better yet, I'm gonna call HPI and see what they say. ;)

Howie, there might be a far easier solution than cutting off and then welding up the ears.  Ask them if they have a simple air filter back plate without any venting provisions that fits their intake.

Another simpler option then trying to fabricate and mate this backplate to another set of vents would be to completely cut the ears off this backplate entirely and get the holes welded closes.  With them out fo the way mount whatever vents you want.

Shoot me a desired length and diameter of the bolts you need.

Been there done that!
