Shocked and Awed (appalled actually)
« on: April 03, 2008, 01:41:31 PM »

Put a deposit on a Black and Silver 2008 SERK.  I was at the gym and told my buddies and they said "Congratulations, good luck with that engine".  Puzzled at the comment I started doing some research and I'm shocked at all these problems.  I'm an engineer by trade and it sounds to me like they released this product without adequate (or any) testing and QC.  There's no excuse for cylinder liners slipping and head gaskets blowing EVER, never mind within a few thousand miles.  Cast crankshafts?!!!

The bean counters have taken over product development it seems.  Whenever this happens quality goes down the tubes fast.  Corporate greed run amok.

So I called the dealership and told them to cancel and refund my deposit.  When they asked why I told them about the problems.  The response was, of course, totally predictable, "Problems? Haven't heard of any".

Oddly enough, two days later another dealership calls, because I had been there earlier looking for one, and they just got in a 2008 with only 1200 miles on trade.  The salesman slipped and admitted the head gasket had blown.

No thanks, I'll stick with my '05 RKC.  I hope the MoCo is listening and reading this.  How much money do you really need to make?  Stop acting like Wall St. and start acting like Main St. Milwaukee again.

Can't say I do not understand your decision. I have the exact bike you cancelled. I also had the problems you feared in less than 3700 miles. I'm sticking w/the scooter and fixing it. As time goes by I assume more people will make the decision you have made and will vote no with their wallet.

I went aftermarket for some of the fix as the MoCo have first crack at my money and did not fold up their end. So Axtell, CycleRama and JE piston get their turn in the barrel.

I too hope the MoCo is reading our pleas and complaints. However, how concern is a company that has customers that ink their body's with the trademark? I think they are assuming our loyalty is forever. I think they are guessing wrong.

Sorry for the rant  :soapbox:

Good luck with your 05. I hope all that decide not to buy post their decision let the MoCo see there all consequence to their cooperate decisions.

bigmuff,

Welcome to the site.

Your decision sounds reasonable.  You can save yourself the grief and spend your $$$ building the motor in your 05.
Who knows......maybe.....just maybe next year or maybe even the year after the MoCo will realize the error of their ways and build a trouble-free motor :nixweiss:
If the bikes stop selling - they will wake-up.

I will, yet again, respectfully request that we avoid using the term "bean counters" on this site.  And that we do not blame "Accountants" for decisions made outside of their ADI.

Thanks

You're right Travis. It's not their fault, but instead upper management's prioritization of shareholder return over quality.
