Somehow that just doesn't seem fair, that you pay this much for a factory custom bike and the chrome is not gonna last but two years and then peel of in chunks with no recourse........I guess the extended warrenty does not cover this type of thing, huh?  Those '04 floor boards are quite a bit more than a deductable and the wheels certainly are!   Can't be riding around leaving a chrome flake trail to find your way home.  Wouldn't be prudent!   Har!  [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]  spyder

Spyder,
Again you are right, the extended warranty doesn't cover this.  [smiley=furious.gif] At least that's what I've been told.  [smiley=cry2.gif]

Not that I'm saying give up, but we might want to get an understanding of why the bikes are peeling, and how to correct it on our own. It's amazing how many different types of parts are peeling. Maybe we need an official chromer of the FLHRSEI.ORG site!Line up a group discount type situation. Sooner or later HD will wash it's hands and memories of this issue.

My husband had his peeling chrome wheels replaced with the BLM777 recomended Chrome Thunder Star wheels. And they look real good.  Now just yesterday he notieced that all the floor boards are showing signs of peeling.  I don't know what replacement one could choose to go with to not have to have the stealth line.  That seems to be the problem chrome line.

????  Does the two year warranty end with the buy of the bike, or from the time of  replacement of the item?? [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

The warranty start date is the date the vehicle was first put into service (sale date).  Replacement parts are warranted for 90 days, I believe, or the remainder of the original warranty, whichever is longer.  So, if the original 2 year warranty has expired, and the wheels were replaced more than 90 days ago, it would be technically out of warranty.  However, with the dismal record these parts have, I'm sure good ol' H-D would want to take care of it even after the warranty has expired  [smiley=confused5.gif].  If not, this would be a good small claims court item.  There sure is enough data available to show this is a manufacturing defect.

Well I would diff. join up with a small claims case for this.  If it's needed to go there
Simply fact is the MoCo should be doing a recall on these items for us. And throwing the whole bullcrap back to the Manufactor to eat. [smiley=brood.gif] We give up our dough, they should do the same.  RIGHT !! SURE !!

Do you guys know how many of these bikes have the chrome problems? Or how many sets of wheels have been replaced?

JMAC, do a search on "peeling chrome" and set the "max age" to go back say, 500 days and ask for 200 responses.  I got 175 posts when I used that criteria.  Point is, it is a well-documented problem here, but I don't think any one person knows the answers to the questions you're asking.

There is a poll or two in some of those threads as well that will give you some quantification of the problem but I think the best thing for you to do is find a dealer that is aware (as most are) that this is a well-known problem for the SEEGs.  We're well beyond the 10 sets that the guys you're talking to are telling you just with the members of this board, so you are simply getting a line of BS.

Print the 175 posts off and take them to the dipsticks that are denying your claim and ask them why everyone else here has been taken care of and then if they still can't seem to get it through their thick skulls that they don't know $h!t from applesauce about the problem, take your motorcycle to a more reputable dealer who's willing to work with you until you're satisfied.

Sorry to read of the wheel problem Scream.  Yours is the first of 05s I remember reading of doing this.  Hopefully this means yours is just an incidental part failure and not something systemic like the 04 owners had to deal with.  Good luck on new good replacements.

Where do the wheels typically start peeling first. front wheel, rear wheel, near hubs? Thanks in advance!

It's not just the chrome on the SE EG's that is not good.  The HD Road Winder wheels I had on my '02 RG that I removed before sale were peeling like crazy.  The rear wheel was awful and did not see it until removed it before sale.  had it rechromed and now good as new but cost me $280 for the rear wheel and I did not even bother to ask HD to warranty it since to me them replacing it would just give me another wheel with a bad chrome job.  the outfit I used says they do a multiple nickle and chrome process.  looked to me that the Hd wheel had only one layer of chrome on the raw metal underneath.  I think that is why their chrome parts have problems, they are saving money on the process thru their vendors instead of getting it done correctly.  just my 2 cents.
