If you start on page 1, you can always click on the desired page number to advance to the last page or anywhere in between.  Top left corner right above "Author".

If we can get this thread to 10 pages it will be the longest one on the FXR board. :huepfenlol2:

Ten pages?  Heck, that'll be easy.

A hundred bottles of beer.

Take one down,

Pass it around,

Ninety nine bottles of beer on the wall.

Hey, I'm doing my part. ;D

Ok....

Cycle Trader has three FXR2's for sale....one of them may be the one George has been talking about:

1) FXR2 Arresting Red  $12,400 2,000 miles  Ohio
2) FXR2 Arresting Red  $13,500 5,700 miles  Nevada
3) FXR2 Arresting Red  $20,995 1,698 miles  Iowa
4) FXR2 Arresting Red  $12,000 2,500 miles  CA
5) FXR2 Arresting Red  $13,200 no mileage listed  SC
6) FXR2 Arresting Red  $10,700 2,074 miles  NY
7) FXR2 Cold Stone Blue $10,800 5,000 miles Ohio

1) FXR3 Emerald Green $11,500 10,350 miles GA
2) FXR3 Emerald Green  $9,500   4,200 miles OH
3) FXR3 Emerald Green $11,990 19,353 miles OH
4) FXR3 Emerald Green $10,000 11,836 miles IL
5) FXR3 Emerald Green $18,000  no mileage listed  CT    this one has been on the market for 3 years
6) FXR3 Emerald Green $18,500 2,700 miles  AZ

1) FXR4 Yellow Pearl    $12,900 19,000 miles FL
2) FXR4 Yellow Pearl    $13,385 5,661 miles  FL
3) FXR4 Tangerine       $13,800 11,493 miles WI
4) FXR4 Yellow Pearl    $13,995 15,098 miles PA
5) FXR4 Yellow Pearl    $17,995  no mileage listed  TX
6) FXR4 Tangerine       $13,995  360 miles  AZ
7) FXR4 Yellow Pearl    $13,500  4,400 miles OH
8 ) FXR4 Yellow Pearl    $10,800  6,081 miles IL
9) FXR4 Yellow Pearl    $12,950  3,301 miles TX
10) FXR4 Yellow Pearl  $14,200  4,200 miles MI
11) FXR4 Tangerine     $17,995  1,700 miles VA
12) FXR4 Yellow Pearl  $13,900 12,395 miles OK

So there you have it across the nation in 1 hour of research.  I am not sure if all of these are still for sale as of July 22, 2008 but they were listed as for sale.  There are a total of 25 bikes for sale just through Cycle Trader.....As one can see prices are all over the board....I would say based off of this information that one could find any of these models between $10,000 - $12,000 with few miles on them.....but you have to find a motivated Seller which has a good bike....There is a Tangerine bike sitting at a dealer for $13,995 with only 360 miles on it....at least the dealer isn't at $17,000.

I think these bikes will probably settle in around $9,000 when it's all done....you see 1993 and 1994 versions going for around $6,500.00 to $7,000.00 but does anyone know for sure.....

The biggest question is this....is HD making a better performing frame than an FXR framed bike????  That's really the question....I mean the debate here should be why would someone go into the dealership and pay $15,000 for a new Dyna modeled bike when one can get an FXR framed bike in the form of a 1999 or 2000 FXR2 FXR3 or FXR4???

As that "gap" spreads between new and used that's how the previously owned FXR bike will retain it's value....and if that's going to happen it's going to require all of us who own them to make sure others are aware of their value and enjoyment in being ridden....I have owned an 2003 Dyna Low Rider....I know what it rides like....I sold it last year...the FXR2 @ least for me is a completely different and more intriguing ride....and I am not trying to "blast" dyna owners at all...or make any ill will...they are simply different types of rides....the FXR framed bike is hands down a light weight "touring" framed bike that handles anything you want to throw at it ie: mountain curves, highway touring, or city manuverability as a tremendously fun and comfortable ride....it probably has to be as comfortable for anyone under 5' 11" tall as riding a touring framed bike would be....and I own one of those as well....I have been reading where more and more riders who are getting older into their later 60's are trading in their touring framed bikes for the lighter framed FXR to do their touring with....also the question would be why should any woman automatically think that a Sportster is her only choice when the FXR is lower and easier to handle than Sportster model....as you can see it's up to all of us FXR owners to keep people aware of it's benefits.....

Regards,

Tim

p.s. :  well that was a bit wierd I tried to post this message and when I did I was sent to an "update" page for "UPDATING FOR 2009" asking for me to update via my screen name and password??????  I don't want to take away from this thread but anyone else have this happen....I don't want to create an entire conversation on the topic but it was a bit wierd.

Great market survey, Tim.

You raise a question that has always been at the forefront of my thinking about the philosophy of HD.  I've always viewed the MoCo decision to drop the FXR in favor of the Dyna as a watershed company philosophy decision.  Not the only one, but a big one.  That was when it became official that HD was more interested in easy money than true innovation.  And the HD community is partly to blame--so many of them would much rather have something that "looked" (in their mind) more "Harley" than something that would actually perform.

I wonder what the HD cruiser family of bikes would be like now if the FXR frame had won corporate backing?  Much more sporting and versatile platform on which to grow into a wider variety of bikes that would do more things well.  But that was then and this is now.  And now HD must be wondering what it can do to attract a younger market, one who has grown up on bikes that handle as well as cruise.  Nimble as well as powerful.  They need to look at their own past for an anwer to the future.  A FXR-inspired frame with a dependable, fuss-free, (from reading most of this forum I 've seen that this is a big problem) powerful motor as a platform for cruisers through baggers.

But what do I know?  I don't even use Glare. ;D ;D

Hello, I believe the FXR was discontinued due to the cost of building the frame. It was welded by hand and not by computerized welding. I think It was a matter of cutting costs. If, As I read, they didn't find these FXR frames, probably in 1998 there would be no 2,3,or 4's. Again, they didn't want to scrap the steel. Thank God for that. I read this somewhere and thats what got me interested in this bike.
