I got a letter from the dealer yesterday "reminding" me the deadline to buy the ESP is almost up. Well I'm going to bite the bullet and spend the money. I figure I'm already paying $1100 a year for insurance, and this is really a form of insurance. So $1750 for an added 5 years of insurance is a small price to pay, it still hurts to part with my money though.

The cost of the extended service agreement (not a warranty) is negotiable and a few of us paid much less for ours.  I think you can get it at Chicago Harley Davidson for 20% discount. :nixweiss:

I got the discount at my dealership when I told them that I knew that I could get it elsewhere for much cheaper.

By the way, I just got through using my extended service agreement....electrical.  None of the mods (exhaust, air cleaner, race tuner) had any impact on it.....not this time or any of the previous times.

My 09 cuse4 is the 1st HD that I purchased a XW with wheel n tire for because of all the widgets n stuff but not through the originating sales dealer either. They could not match a price I got elsewhere,, 14hun and change.

Lets hope it was just a waste of money.

All my other new HD seemed to get the bugs worked out during the original 2 year period.

During purchase negotiations last weekend i was seriously considering the extended warranty, as soon as i mentioned my intentions to tow a trailer he said nevermind, towing a trailer will void it.

Like everyone has said.... personal choice. My business offers extended warranties. (not mc's) They are obviously a money maker. However....... I'd say that if you're not much of a wrench yourself or if you can't afford to pay should you need major work done - get the extended plan. My 2 yr is up early next year - I'm happy I decided at purchase time to buy the extended warr. Something deep down tells me it's goin to get used.

I gotta say, the more I wrench mundane things on this bike (routine normal maintenance and abnormal maintenance, adjustments, etc.), the more I think extended warranty is a good idea.  I can't be complimentary on the engineering of this product - too many dumb things.

Dead line on the ESP. no way. you can add it anytime you choose during the Factory warranty time period.
Extended Warranties are like Credit Life.

They have to prove that towing a trailer caused the failure, I've pulled trailers w/ my last 2 bikes (both w/ the extended service contract) & never had a problem getting work done.

:2vrolijk_21:    Glad I had just extended my warranty before I did my cross country trip in July. Left Virginia and went to Biloxi Mississippi, from there up to Alexandria Louisiana, then off to Vegas and from Vegas I was headed up to Bangor, Washington before returning home to Chesapeake. Bike was running great until about half way between Vegas and Reno when I started hearing a knock from the tranny. Limped into Reno and the dealership said that a bearing had gone out of the tranny and it would take 4-5 days to get the parts and fix. Warranty paid for hotel and rental. Used the rental to drive up to Washington and visit some friends and then head back on a Friday to pick the bike up and head back home. Got to the dealership and they said that once they got the tranny back together and started the bike the could hear some unusual noise from the engine. So apart goes the engine. Next thing they are telling me the have to wait for the MOCO rep to come in and look at the engine before they do anything. By that time I am running out of time and have to fly back to Virginia so I can deploy. So I left the bike in Vegas. Called the dealership about a month after I deployed overseas here and they said they have replaced the engine and its ready to be picked up when I get back in February. Don't think its going to be as much fun coming back in February as it was going in July.  But I am out the $50 deductible for a new engine, the rebuilt tranny, seven days in a hotel and a rental. That one use will pay for any future extended warranty. So yes I purchased an extended warrant on the SEUC4 I get when I get back.  Just to much to go wrong in the wrong place not to have one, especially if you plan on doing some travelling.  :soapbox:

Asked my service dealer for a discount and they told me no.  I told them I get 20% they wanted to know where.  I told them Chicago HD and Three Rivers HD.  They said they'd call me back.  Got a call a few days later letting me know about a sale for 15% off plus tax.  I'm waiting to hear from Chicago HD about their 25% sale before I pull the trigger.  This site is actually SAVING me money!

Since our bikes come with a 2 yr. warranty, I did not see any reason
to buy the EXPENSIVE extended warr. If you have a defect in the bike
it will show up in the first 2 yrs. if you ride it at all. Any warr. claim can
be denied by the dealer if they want to so your warr. is only as good as
your dealer. I have worked at a dealership and I have seen first hand
a dealer fix a good customers bike when it is a long time out of warranty
and still get paid by the manufacturer. On the other hand I have seen
a "difficult" customers warr. claim get denied on "technicalities".

It pays to have a good relationship with your dealer. If you can find a
good dealer in your area.

This is just MHO.
