HOWIE you know I am just busting your balls on the synthetic oil. I do prefer to run it but I also don't run the balls off of Ole Punkin. I was thinking about what happened to your motor. What lifters were you runnning? The only ones I know that there were a problem with were the Jim's and SE. And Jims make the HD SE lifters. I am running fueling in mine. So far so good. I do bust it in the A$$ every once in a while. I have been very happy with the valve train in this motor. I think we need to talk. BTW I did tell you before I think you are making a great choice in cams for your build.

Well then keep any ear on them Mike. I used Feuling lifters. I'm about the 4th now I've heard about with Feuling race lifter failure!!! :nixweiss:

I whole heartedly agree on the older Jim lifters, had one crater my Jims 120, sent the complete engine minus heads and they sent me a complete new engine no charge. However I did not have my HD for almost a riding season. Had to use my BMW GS Adventure for last years Nelson CVO Get Together.

I don't use the race oil pump or lifter. I use the standard fueling which is better than SE or Jims. I really don't have aproblem with them. The lift in the motor right now is 657. I am running roller rockers as well.

Since I'm pulling Cybil's motor again for another rebuild (see the Cybil Thread if ya don't already know why: http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=21375.msg458141#msg458141 ), I'm looking at adding some new goodies to help her out even more! I'm looking at adding:

New Screamin' EagleĀ® Big Twin Compensator Package-40274-08 and Screamin' EagleĀ® Twin Cam Performance Race Clutch Hub Kit-37976-08.

Baker plus One Oil Pan which will require the Alloy Art TXR Stabilizer instead of my TrueTrack stabilizer.

Any other better chit youze would be thinking about right now if you were doing all this work? The motor's coming out. Entire Primary assembly will be removed. Now's the time to make her even stronger than I attempted to do the first and second time. As they say, The third time's a charm!!! ;)

Hoist! 8)

     Howie,
If I were building a new motor , yes I would do the above. Shame about not being able to use the True-Track since they are the first and the best, but that's the way it goes sometimes.

Was thinking about just that the other night Mike.  Can't remember a failure of the "standard" HP+ lifters from Feuling but can think of at least three with their "race" lifters.  I do the same on the oil pump.  Not used the "race" pump but their standard product.  Fortunately (where is that wood to knock on?) no problems.

That's how it was on my 4-speed to Jim. How's the strength of the stock shell though? I've already replaced it once due to broken ring gear. :nixweiss:

Hoist! 8)

I ran 2 of the pro clutches (wouldn't stand up to my 127) I put in the new S&S clutch it's much better holds the big motor no problem but now ripped out 4th gear in my Baker DD6. This S&S clutch you pull it in and stomp to first, no clunk at all sometimes you actually have to roll the bike a bit to get it into gear from neutral as the clutch has no drag. I also ripped out the ring gear on the Pro clutch, the S&S uses the 66 tooth which is much stronger make sure you order the matching pinion gear from S&S when you get the clutch.

Don I agree with you. I have never heard of a failure. The only problem I have heard of from fueling was the very early cam plates. They have since corrected the problem. I think it was a bushing problem, but not completely sure!

Thanks a lot Mike! i'll call ya tonight! :2vrolijk_21:

Thanks CB! i'll check into that. Didn't know anyone made a complete clutch assembly including shell w/ring gear and pinion gear change for '06 Dyna, '07's & up. :confused5:

Howie I think your on the right track with all S&S stuff at least if you have a problem you can get some support. The New S&S lifters are much improved and from what I understand no longer need the Limited travel kit so I ordered a set, they will be at the house when I get home. By the way the S&S clutch also comes with the new inner race for the main shaft this has a bevel on the inner side that matches up with the main shaft to prevent the inner race from sliding into the output shaft a much stronger set up. Hopefully they make one to fit as the 08 catalog just lists it up till 2006.

I think HD locked out the aftermarket with heavy patents on any major drivetrain component replacement on '06 Dynas, all 07's and up. You can't buy complete engines or transmissions at all (except Jims). You can get internal components (like a clutch replacement w/hub) but not complete assemblies (like complete clutch w/shell and all). I'll look into it again. I know Baker, Rivera, Barnett, don't offer anything but replacement clutches. ;)

The S&S has a larger shell so it's not compatable with anything else, the PRO clutch might work as you would use your stock basket they are good till about 150hp which should be ok utill you put on the nitrous and turbo
