got my cd in from moonshinefoto

put some pics into an animated gif might take a few seconds to load

(...)

Great pictures and the post made me aware of moonshine. I have only know killboy and had pictures ordered from them. Went to the moonshine site and ordered their set of pictures on CD as well. That was for my trip earlier this year.

Ride safely,
Louis

PS: It is amazing how different people look at the pictures and what they get out off them in terms of criticizing one's riding ability.

Well Naitram stepped up and answered the guy, but I have to say I don't recall ever seeing somebody seriously diss another site member's riding skills unless it was after a minor scrape and then done in good taste and fun. The fact that the person doing the dissing was a new member who so far as I know doesn't know Naitram and hasn't ridden the Dragon either for that matter just made it all the more annoying. We have a site rule against flaming new members so I'm not going to go off on the guy, but it's a heck of way to say howdy to 6,600 new "friends"

Might have been wrong to go out and correct #1, and I thought the same as I was reading it, but it is good info. Probably would have been better to post it in a section on "riding the twisites" or something.

It is good food for thought, bad timing maybe.

But many of us don't need to ride once a year that aggressively. I watch all the crotch rockets ride "correctly" when we are down there, and it is obvious that I would not want the matching bodywork and leather damage that they have. If you ride to the limit occasionally you have to "find" that limit to know where it is.

I rode for 1o years before I heard of counter steering. So if one person has read this and learns of counter steering and maybe goes out and seeks to increase his-her  knowledge-skills, then it is a good post. And if Neal is OK with it then we should be too.

It is funny that many seasoned riders do not understand the principles of counter-steering. I teach group riding, new riding, aggressive maneuvers, and such in the HOG chapter. and actually had an MSF instructor tell me I was wrong, that by pushing it would make the wheel turn. I said, not over 35 MPH.
To prove my point and the physics behind it I took a bicycle wheel and held it by the axle and had someone spin it. then pushed forward on the right axle and the wheel laid over on the right, and visa versa. once they saw that they try it on the road. Best place here to experiment is the Natchez Trace. I lead them on a 7 mile run where I use only one hand (do not try this at home kids) to show push/pull. My wife got it right out of the box.

Great pics Naitram, looks like your havin a blast man.  Missed ya'll down there by a couple weeks I think, might have to change that next year.

Remember “outside – inside – outside.”

Only one little problem with this, some of the turns down there are so close, coming out of a turn on the outside means you are on the inside starting the next, there is no room to re-position between turns, picking the center of the lane is the best option some times.  Hell I know a few roads around the dragon where even having time to consider lane position puts you off a cliff......or into one....

Gotta agree with him on a few points though, the best option is to twist and lean if you get in trouble, most folks brake and panic.  It took a long time to work out in my brain but once I got it thru there it's natural to do now, though I've found it easier to stay out of trouble.  Also I don't drag near as much as I use to because I lean into the turn more, I don't always do it but it does work and when I do there is a noticable increase in speed.  Running the Cherahola this year a friend behind me could tell when I was about to leave him cause he'd start seeing me leaning more than my wife was (who knows to stay with the lean of the bike) and in a couple turns he couldn't see me anymore.  I also don't ride twisties with my feet on the highway pegs, just a personal preference for me, feel like I have more control with them on the boards and should the need to shed a little speed come into play the rear brake is your friend when used correctly.  I rarely use the front brake in the twisties, engine braking and rear brake are about it.

An easy way to prove it or work on counter steering is to go down a straight road and just try pushing on the handle bars just a little to see the effect, then increase it a little to get more of the feeling. Then find a decent turn some where you ride a lot and start slow and gradually by pressing on the bars to get around the turn, since you familiar with the turn you can concentrate on the counterstearing more. Then when your confortable with making the turn at that speed, increase it a little at a time, but never go faster than your confortable with. This is how I learned to counter steer when I got my first street bike. Had some good turns on the way to work, so I practiced every morning and after noon.
There's lots of articles and books on breaking and counterstearing you can read, the preload of the brakes doesn't help as much with my Road King as it did with my old V65 Magna, different suspension, and a lot more weight on the RK!
