Agreed, it does not lose any lubricating capability when it gets hot. Not saying that. But it does in fact get physcally thinner, which does result in lower OP, at idle anyway at least. ;)

you mean, you didn't get the latest update for the parade magic formula? It automatically turns your stereo up full volume and pushes the base to its limits to cover the engine noise and vibration...

Does anyone have any experience/ opinions on Mobil 1 V-Twin oil?          Thanks  BLW
I have used the moble 1 V-TWIN 20/50 SYNC motor oil in my 2000 FLSTS since my 16k oil change...I use the oil in all three cavaties..it now has 85k miles and it appears to run quiter and cooler.. I also run the same oil on my 2004 FLHR since my 500 mile oil change... it now has 27k miles...I buy my oil are WALMART FOR $8 AND SOME CHANGE...

Just a fact on the viscosity issue.

In order for a lubricant to be classified in any SAE grade (10W-30, 10W-40, etc.) it has to meet certain guidelines with regard to viscosity ("thickness").

For example, it makes no difference whether it's 10W-40 petroleum or 10W-40 synthetic, at -25 degrees centigrade (-13F) and 100 degrees centigrade (212 degrees F) the oil has to maintain a standardized viscosity or it can't be rated a 10W-40.

Craig

P.S  You can go to the site below and download the Oil Bible, has more info on oil, and how it's tested and rated than you'll probably ever want to know. Just click on bonus report three.

That's only when you have a screwed oil pump and trashed lifters Howie - tell the guy the whole story.  I've been using Mobil-1 V-Twin since the first oil change, and no matter how hot the engine got it maintained the same 10+ psi at idle and 32-35 psi at 2500 rpm.  Throwing higher viscosity fresh dyno oil in there doesn't prove anything, try throwing heavier synthetic in it and compare apples to apples.

As for the FTS sentiment, I agree when we're talkin' female anatomy but not when were talkin' lubricants.  JMHO of course.

Good post Jerry. I like it!!!!

One thing to remember. It is not about oil pressure it is about OIL VOLUME!!!!!!

You can have all of the pressure you want if you don't have the volume you are OOOOOOOOUT!!!!!!

BTW don't tell me you will have the volume if you have the pressure. If I have to I will bring some FD pump charts home and scan and post. Better yet all I have to do is mention it and DOOD will do it for us!!!!!!

So if it's not the oil then maybe it's the H/D cases.
Has then been verified?
I have read a lot of negative post about what crap the H/D cases are, but is that really true or is it like the synthetic oil?

Just askin?

Synthetic is the only lube that can take the heat and high coefficient of friction generated in these very expensive machines.  20+ tons rotating at 5105 rpm can put a beating on bearing babbitts...

Chip ..... no doubt there has been some issues with the 110 cases in the early models, but I know of 3 separate instances where folks were gunshy enough about the '09 motors to have the crank runout checked prior to delivery.  2 were right at .002 and one almost .001.  Based upon my history with the tech supervisor doing the work, I would and did take the info as fact.  Not making excuses for HD and the early models, but I believe they have addressed the issue.  (If I didn't, I sure wouldn't have bought one and decided to use it as the start of a performance engine build.)
