In the last week or so, I've found six SEUC's within a three hour drive. Five of them are Ruby Red and one is Silver/Blue. The closest one is being held until his wife quits screaming about the high cost and the next closest has a deposit on it waiting for a loan to go through. The local dealer has a good reputation and offers some incentives so we're trailering the Fatboy there tomorrow. I want them to nail down some figures and hopefully pressure them into taking theirs off hold. If that doesn't work out, we're heading to a dealer two hours from here that promises $250 under my best "documented" price.

These dealers claim to be doing well so asking for incentives may fall on deaf ears. What do you guys consider a good deal right now ? MSRP + what thrown in ?

Best to ya with the dealin'.  I'm out of the "new bike buyin' business," so don't have any idea what would be reasonable, but definitely no more than MSRP.......even if you have to travel to get it.  Paying more than MSRP only encourages the practice.

I just put a deposit on a silver/blue SEUC due at a dealer in my area for delivery in February 2009. The bike is MSRP ($35,499) plus $375 freight, plus $500 dealer prep and $50 document fee and then $80 for title and plates. They are offering me $20,000 for my spotless 2005 Red SEEG with 13,500 miles and has Rinehart True Duals and some additional chrome. If I trade the bike in then I owe the difference plus sales tax (7%) on the difference. I have been watching SEEG bids on Ebay and most have been for a few hundred to a two thousand less than $20K. What made me decide was when I stopped in at another dealer in southern Wisconsin and saw a copy of my current bike with a price on it below $18K and a sold sign on it. That helped me decide that the deal I am being offered is not that bad for a bike that is not even in their inventory. I think motorcycle dealers are a lot like car dealers in terms of being sales driven and more willing to deal on current rather than future inventory. BTW, if anyone is looking for a red or orange 2009 SEUC, my dealer has both in inventory now. He keeps the red one in their warehouse because he does not want both of them sitting on the sale floor. He also has several other CVO models, except for SERG's.

Are you kidding?  :o If that is a good deal, you must be comparing it to a Rossmeyer quote. ;D

Yessir.  There's none to be found around my area.  I think the dealers down here are starting to "get it."   :2vrolijk_21:

We made the trip to our "preferred" dealer this morning. They looked at my '05 Fatboy, commented on its good condition and then offered us $14,000 trade-in toward MSRP (35,499). That's $500 more than I expected so it takes some of the sting out of those da*n freight and prep charges (same as fthngrg's). He's including the first 1000 mile service free of charge and 15% off all parts and labor for 6 months.

This bike's deposit was extended until January 5th but his gut tells him the guy's wife will never agree to the purchase price so he's calling him monday to tell him they have a serious buyer. If he won't let it go, he'll trade their SERG with another dealer for us. This place has a great reputation and after today, I can see why. They're only 35 miles from home and it's a nice ride through the mountains to get there. Friends of ours live right up the road too so we're happy with what transpired today.

Congratulations! I had another CVO "member" reply with what i perceived as a denigrating reply which I did not appreciate. To me, prices are what they are and depend on where you are live and I do not care to drive 800 miles for a "deal". If you are really fortunate, maybe you find a great deal where you live. If not, then you pay what they ask or go buy some other brand. Again, congratulations!

The reply in question was not intended to put you personally down so much as calling into question what you were calling a good deal. The member you refer to is one of the nicest folks you could ever hope to meet. This website exists to share information on CVO Harley-Davidsons of all types MEANING, we also try to help each other out when a member is buying a new bike. Some dealers seem to pick prices out of the sky and see if they fly. Often knowing what other folks are paying 800 or 3,000 miles away can help you negotiate. Please try not to percieve comments that go against your current opinion in a negative or personal way as we go out of our way not to do that around here and when you see it happen, 999,999,999 times out of 1,000,000,000 we're joking around with somebody we know.

What a person pays for their bike is kind of a personal thing anyway.  You should only pay what it is worth to you to get it, and I believe that is what most of us do.  I put a deposit on my CUSE4 months before scheduled delivery.  I paid MSRP, dealer prep, and freight. (Not to mention CA emissions and sales tax just for the pleasure of living here.)  I know that if I had not done that, some other bozo would have come in behind me and done it and I would have had to work my a$$ off to find the bike I wanted elsewhere.  Maybe it would happen, maybe not.  I wasn't willing to risk it, so I jumped in. I know the dealer could have sold that bike 2 times before it hit the shop, and probably 20 times before I picked it up a day later.  I got the bike I wanted at a price I was willing to pay and I'm quite happy with it.  Some more patient folks in areas with higher dealer concentration and maybe different economical environs could be shaking their heads at my stupidity, but what the hey?  I'm fat, dumb, and happy on my new ride!  I did my part to stimulate the sagging economy and help shore up a local financial institution!  Good Americans everywhere should be joining me to help get us out of this slump! 8) :mango:

If what you say in the first sentence is how you feel, then the 4th from last sentence should never occur.

A good deal is what you are happy to pay. Some people may be happy paying MSRP + a grand + freight and prep etc. That would not make me happy, so I would walk away, simple as that.
