Good idea! [smiley=idea2.gif]  Beats the heck out of replacing the whole inner fairing.  Still odd why this affects some but not others, though.

Let's Roll - nice idea with the rubber bumper.  Sorry to hear the paint chip happened in the first place, but your solution is a good one - PJ

Since I'm a computer dummy, does anybody have any idea how we can share this topic with the SE Ultra members?  They're be in the same boat as us with the painted inner fairings. - PJ

PJ57 - I posted this thread in the ultra discussion per your request - it links back to here so the ultra owners can see all the discussions.

Lets Roll, I am so sorry to here about your mishap, and quite impressed with the ingenuity you exhibit with a camouflage for it. Well Done!

I have been lusting after that part too ...... but not any more.

PJ57 - Obviously a good idea to post in both places. Seems we got info to Drebbin just in time.  What a wonderful site this is.   [smiley=cherry.gif]

Seriously toying with joinging ThatRhinoGuy, Scrrem and Drebbin in a ride to PA where the 911 plane crashed. I am babying a sore knee though, so may just lean closer to home and go to all three events right next door; Colonial HD has a birthday bash, Richmond is having an Open house and so is York.  So many things to do and so little time to do it in.  If you are in the show it will be easy to spot you.  If you see a red seeg dripping in chrome roses - --- you will know that is mine.

......HD admited they are aware of the situation and that their instructions will soon read for installation on models with non-painted inner fairings....

Received 2005 Genuine Motor Accessories and Motor Parts Holiday Guide in mail yesterday, and on page #27 they have Steering Neck Cover P/N # 66345-04 with a note on fitment "except FLHTCSE, FLHTCSE2, FLHTCUSE, or models equipped with color-matched fairings". Seems like they have had to replace other inner fairings and will not be replacing anymore. This warning is NOT in the 2005 P/A Catalog, buyer beware.

That's got to only mean that on black ones the ding isn't noticed.  The paint just can't make any difference and the structure of the unit under the paint is the same.

Having had the offending little chrome trinket on and off the red bike a couple of times it is easy enough to see how it could be installed leaning a little farther for or aft at the top if you weren't careful.  So black inner fairings had to have been dinged as well as colored ones.  Just must be much harder to notice there.
