Should I be disappointed with my dyno run?
« on: March 05, 2009, 03:16:51 PM »

09 SEUC with Zipper MaxFlo air cleaner and D&D 2-1 Fat Cat.  They just told me that my numbers were 90 HP and 107 TQ.  I asked them why it was so low compared to what I've been seeing from others and I was told that very simply, they don't fudge up the numbers likes lots of places do.  I was also told that I may see a slight increase in that number if the temperature were higher.  Does that make any sense?  I'm going to pick it up now.  I'll see how it feels seat of the pants.  I'm very disappointed with those numbers and was really expecting something a little higher.

every Dyno will report different numbers, and there are plenty of ways to play with the numbers.

the best way to measure performance increase is get a baseline make your changes and run it again on the same Dyno

To add to Neal's comments, how does it feel to you?  Does it have a noticeable increase in power and fun?  If so, there's no problem!

They said the baseline run was 83 hp and 100 tq. He told me not to compare with runs done on less precise equipment and they have the best and newest available.

Peak HP and TQ are not what matters usually, but where you power comes in and like the other guys said, how does it feel?

It's like that, because it is red.

Just kidding.

I'd take a look at the graphs of the baseline vs. the tune. How are you doing in the juicy 2k to 3.5k portion? I think good results here are a better value than high numbers at 4.5k

Also: Did the tuner recommend the changes to air filter and exhaust?

Ride safely,

To be honest, the numbers aren't bad considering that you've only done A/C and exhaust...

Ditto.  Take a look at this board:  http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?board=7.0  You'll see a lot of dyno numbers.  Most guys went with a tuner....  That will help.  Don't get caught up with peak numbers... How does it feel when you get on it?

Just like everyone else is saying,  dont get caught up in the numbers....  There are different dyno's,  different people doing the dyno and different days of the week  ;D

I have a 650HP Bmw (car)  and depending on when/where/who does the dyno I can get as much as a 10% +/- number....  If it feels faster, it prob is

Dave

Wow, That is so much easier!

IMHO your numbers are fine.

I have seen many numbers from 110's inflated to satisfy owners.

With S/E breather, 2 into 1 D&D and SSERT my numbers were 96 h/p and 108 T.

I think your next step is to ride that puppy and see how it feels.

But (because we are on first name basis now) I must go ahead and tell you up front, it use to be that the red ones were faster,,,,,,,,,that has all changed with the 09 SEUC.

The silver 09 SEUC for some reason out of the crate is faster and respond better to quality tuning than the other colors.

So ultimately if your looking for higher numbers you have three options,

1) Take it to a tuner that will look you in the eye and say "Yep, I tune those things all the time, I usually get 118/120. or

2) Do some motorwork, cam, headwork, intake and retune. or

3) Trade that red one in for a silver one and be happy having the fastest color of the 09 SEUC's.

But probably the best thing you can do is ride the bike, have fun and not worry about it.

SBB

And note, After reading your post a few times I have to wonder about,

Quote
and they have the best and newest available.

Either that is true or B/S.
Follow up with Jim's question and he can call B/S on B/S or tell you they do have good equipment.

What do they have?

It's a Dynotune something...I don't even remember. I was so frustrated, I didn't even remember to get a copy of the dyno run from them.  I'll call them tomorrow and hope they have it for me.
