06' Throttle Body = Larger
« on: October 11, 2005, 02:23:44 PM »

My bud who works at the local HD store tells me the 06' throttle bodies are larger than previous years (06' is 44 or 46mm we wasn't sure of the size) and are now contructed as 1 piece (no more seperate intake manifold) and I am now waiting for more info on weather they are interchangable and their is definately a new 06' version of the RaceTuner software. Does the new throttle body afford you cruise control on it and is it a 1.66 or 1.80 intake?   I have not checked yet.

So when isn't a harley intake device not an aftermarket (built by a third party vendor)? probably pre-Linkert (not sure about that really old stuff was probably made inhouse) long as it works. More importantly who's gonna be the first to try and install it on their scooter!!! [smiley=worthless.gif]

From the info put out by H-D for '06 Big Twins

New Single Piece 46mm Throttle Body
New Fuel Injectors

Redesigned Cylinder Heads
New Intake and Exhaust Ports
Intake Port Requires New Symmetrical Flange
Existing Intake Seals To Be Used With New Flange

When I said aftermarket I ment you won't use it on your 04 SEEG. Everything had been redesigned to "Work better". I don't know if your old sensors will work with the new TB and or the new sensors will work with your old ECM and throttle body. When I was down at Zippers last week they were doing some testing on an 06 Road King. I watched for a while. They now need all new maps for the 06 model year and I am not sure if they had to  make any changes to the Thunder Max as of yet.

Before I would try the 06 throttle body that is only 46mm on my 04 I would buy a 50mm from Zippers. I know for a fact they work and work well on my 04 ! But that is just my opinion!

DC
Zippers 50mm is much over priced as with most zippers products!!! Harleys 50mm TB is $400 complete, how does Zippers justify $600? and they don't include the injectors!!!
I also read in the lastest Hot Bike this morning a review for an 06' low rider and the article discussed a new CLOSED LOOP EFI with sensors in both exhausts, so I am wondering if the same system is used on all 06' EFI scooters? Closed loop is definately the way to go, however a sensor for each cylinder is a must. MOCO is moving in the right direction here!!! ;)

O'Fender,

The closed-loop system is only on Dyna's for '06.

Lets see 46mm and 50mm I guess that sums it up. You may not want to spend the extra 200 but I DID and I LIKE IT!!!!!! I am not going to ride around on a stocker and what I have planed for my bike the 50mm will work just about right.

GRC you are correct about the Dyna. It is a test platform for the MOCO. A lot has been changed and for the better. The closed loop system is the best way to go. Like everything else they just need to get the bugs out of the system.

DC harleys is 50mm also (the one in the SE catalog) and according to my buddy who works at local hd says he believes he can make cruise work on that TB. Heres a picture from the catalog and my buddy tells me that the little nub I am pointing to is all that is needed to make cruise work!!!

O'FENDER I can look at the Zippers 50mm I have and see what the difference is. It might be that simple. If it is then some people might profit for it.

The statemant I was responding to earlier was about the 06 HD 46mm throttle body we were talking about in the begining of this thread not the SE 50mm  that we ended up talking about. Does the SE 50mm come with injectors???? I really don't know. I do know injectors are about 20 bucks each and Harley does sell different sizes. So no matter what throttle body we use you can always change injector size if you need to.

I am just comparing apples to apples, so if these injectors are so inexpensive why doesn't zippers supple them? Harley does, your not doing a very good job of justifying the extra $200 expense. Way over priced!!! I am gonna try and get a price on a stripped 46mm TB (stripped meaning no injectors like zipperheads).
