Now ready to ROCK as I ROLL down the road...
« on: March 24, 2009, 05:39:42 PM »

Just had an 8 speaker surround sound system by Hogtunes installed and it's amazing!

Great people to do business with... Excellent service and super product!

I thought I would share a "before" (in the trailer on the way for install) photo
and an "after" (back home after install) photo.

The clarity of sound is amazing and I can't wait to roll down the highway with the likes of Frampton, ZZ Top or Zeppelin to keep me company.

Here's the before...

Where are all the speakers?  It looks like the regular 2 front, 2 more in the dash pad, 2 in the lower fairing glove box area, and I guess the regular spot for the 2 rear ones.  Am I correct?  How much did this setup cost you?  Did you have to change anything else besides the speakers?  Just how much better is the sound?  Who did the install and how long did it take for the install?  I'm on a roll with questions here.

Nice job Grizzly, I can hear it from here!

Regarding the speakers, 1abastarsmda found them all.    :2vrolijk_21:

You are correct 1abastarsmda.  I added the HOG POD to the dash and the speakers in the lowers.  You can purchase just these two sets separately, but I decided to go for the entire 6 Speaker set up plus the HOG POD totalling $780. which includes an additional amp designed specifically for our bikes.  The installation was quite simple as everything is "plug & play" with easy to follow instructions.

If you go to http://www.hogtunes.com/ you'll find everything you need to know.

The clarity of the sound is amazing and I can now cruise down the highway with the volume set at half of what I used to have it at and still hear the music perfectly.

Hope this helps.

Hey Grizzly, your new system looks great, just one question where did you get the paint and color code for your Hog Pod, I have a system I am ready to install and can't find the paint. My bike is the same color as yours, any help you can give would really be appreciated.
                                                      Thanks, William

and another question from me...do you think the dash pad speakers really add alot to the system or would it still be considered a great sound without them?

Hi William,

There actually is no color code that H-D is willing to part with, as you no doubt already know.

However, I found a great guy who specializes in matching CVO colors... All years!

His name is Roger from Extreme Measures   http://www.extrememeasures.ca/  and with the sales success of the HOG POD Roger has started an exchange program.  You'll find his prices very reasonable and he's a nice guy to deal with.

Simply give Roger a call at 905-469-6718 (he prefers a phone call over email due to demand) and arrange to ship him your casing and in no time at all you'll have your color matched casing back ready to be installed.

Good luck!

and another question from me...do you think the dash pad speakers really add alot to the system or would it still be considered a great sound without them?

Last fall after hearing a friend's HOG TUNES 4 speaker upgrade on his Ultra I originally was only looking at adding the lower fairing speakers due to the fact that the CVO comes with an extra amp.  However, realizing my stock speakers were nowhere as good as the HOG TUNES replacement ones, I decided to go for the 6 speaker set which replaces the 4 stock speakers and adds the lower fairing speakers with amp.

By the time I got around to ordering the system HOG TUNES had come out with (in early Feb. 09) the new HOG POD set for the dash.  With the excellent price on the HOG POD I figured, if I'm upgrading, why not go all the way?

I'm very pleased with my decision because at first I just thought the HOG POD was a gimmick kind of thing, however once I heard the complete system it was clear to me that I definitely made the right decision.  Not to mention the custom look it gives you.

Although the 4 speaker upgrade is a big improvement and the addition of the lower fairing speakers with amp add the thumping base I love, the added tweeter speakers in the HOG POD really make the sound complete.  Once installed to test the value of the HOG POD, I covered up the tweeters with my hands to listen without them, then when I removed my hands the sound quality was full.

I say, if you're going - go full HOG (excuse the pun), you won't be disappointed.

Take care & rock on!

Hey Grizzly,

Did you paint the hole thing Copper? It looks like part of it is still black.  :nixweiss:

Also, you do have to remove the Dash pad that is on the bike, right?

Hi Brinks,

What you are seeing is some shadowing. The entire unit is "Crystal Copper" with black cloth grills... You also get black metal grills with the set, but I chose to use the cloth to match my other grills.

You do remove the original leather dash pad which can easily be reinstalled if you trade the bike and want to move the entire system to your new bike... That's the beauty of this "plug & play" system.

Take care,
Grizzly

Thanks, very "Sweet" setup, it will going on the list. Your, contact you mentioned, has color matches for all CVO's? IF so, how much should I expect to pay for the Pod?

Thanks

I was so inspired by the stories here, I just called Hog Tunes myself. After talking with the owner for a few minutes, I ordered the complete 6 speaker system and the Hog Pod. Total cost with shipping to Boston area: $665. Can't wait to get it and set it up. I'm going to look into having the pod painted too.

To finish my plan, I also called Roger at "Extreme Measures" and spoke with him about painting the Hog Pod. $100 plus shipping. I thought about and I think I may go another route. My 07 has the leather covered tour pack and I love all the leather accents on the bike including the dash pad. I'm going to look into getting the hog pod covered in leather to maintain the leather look I like. I'll post photo's too if/when the install is complete.
