Riding in East Tennessee
« on: April 22, 2009, 12:06:22 PM »

I have relocated from Northern Virginia to East Tennessee and I am having a blast discovering all of the great places to ride here. A friend from Va is tagging along and is blown away at the great riding there is here and only 10 miles from my home.  Photo is from the Cherohola Skyway. We are on our way to the "Dragon" and Deals Gap.

I've been looking forward to riding those roads too. There were about 18 of us planning a trip to Gatlinburg last year but it fell apart because of everybody's work schedules. Fellow forum member "1abastarsmda" invited me, my wife and friend to ride down to Maggie Valley with his HOG chapter next month. We're leaving Pa. and heading to your area on May 16th. Maybe you can hook up with all of us while we're there ? Look out for two lucky guys riding Ruby Red Ultras ! I'll be the handsome one with my OL on back... :2vrolijk_21:

Just saying... I think it was real nice of Dave to ask us along and his gesture shows me what kind of people you can meet in this forum.

Tennessee has many roads that the Dragon can't hold a candle to. there is the Cornbread Festival in So. Pittsburgh this Sat. that has many good roads around it.

Now what would be the fun in that? would take away the exploratory process. Seek, and ye shall find

Just what I figured. Not many quite like the Cherohola and the Dragon.

That, my friend, is a great road. we did it 2 yrs ago.
This past Friday, I rode a stretch in KY that is called the little dragon, very little but fun, Check out Land Between the Lakes.
Rode some snaky roads yesterday up around Cordell Hull lake

I live in East Tennesse ( the knoxville area). We have the best, most accessible (you can find a good ride any way you turn) roads any where. These do not include the Dragon or any of the "famous" motorcycle roads. The best ones are the ones you don't have to worry about 5-10 crotch rockets or miatas trying to pass you in every semi straight curve. Yesterday we rode 25/70 to Hot springs NC ( great mom and pop diner Smokey Mountain Diner in Hot springs) then 209 lots of curves. An All time favorite is Hwy 66 between Rogersville and Sneedville 25 miles of curves like the dragon only no traffice just nice curvy road.

HWY 360 Vonore to Tellico Plaines
Cherohalla Skyway  Tellico Plaines to Robbinsville ,Nc
Hwy 129 Robbinsville ,Nc to Tallassee Store Tallassee TN.
Then hit the Foothills parkway at Chillhowee Lake to Hwy 321 back to Maryville
Its a great ride. The CHEROHALLA is at 6,000 feet and it always a good ride in the afternoon.

lets just face the facts guys. just to many roads here to say which one is the best.i know so many it is hard to choose each and every ride, it is nice to live in Gods country. I have managed to find a couple nice B&B which cater to bikers. Bikes inside at night (Garaged) sweeeet. Breakfast and away we go, Ain.t we lucky!! We need to plan a ride togather soon. in the meantime get out there and find IT.
