If you don't like the ubiquitous red color, put the rain sock on and it will make it look dark.  And the color does come from the red filter oil; check with K&N or other filter manufacturers and see if they offer different color oils.  It won't make a lot of difference after some miles because they all turn dark gray, but for a short time you might be able to have any color you want. :nixweiss:

Hey Jerry -  both GregKhougaz and LarryB have alluded to the same; so I guess I'll just have to put a few thousand miles on my SERG before the maroonish color goes away.  I don't like running with the rain sock unless it is actually raining.  I know it interferes very little with the Heavy Breather's ability to “breath” but in the back of my mind I wonder.   :-\

There is another way to have different colors.  Try the K&N Drycharger's, which is their name for the rain sock.  They come in black, red, yellow, and blue.  Get one of each and change them daily or weekly to confound your riding buddies.
