Just returned from my dealer and the new paint is awesome [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]. Big differance from the old milky paint. I received inner and outer fearing, saddle bags, front fender, gas tank and side covers. With the old paint set it was a smooth finish over the pin striping with the new set you can feel a bump, for lack of a better word, over the pin stripping. Not a big deal because the new paint is 100% improvement.

Gator,

Thanks for the leg work you did. My new parts were ordered today. What color bike do you have?

Can't hurt to get customer care involved.  However, I talked to the service manager at my dealer and told him of the paint problem.  He spoke to the Harley rep who instructed him to simply have me bring in the bike, go over all the painted parts I wanted replaced, confirm the problem visually and order the parts.

My dealer called me today to update that they spoke directly with and engineer and have a referance number.  The MoCo engineer said they are fully aware of the problem and are painting the new parts with a new protocol.  the manager and I had discussed the stripe issue and he noted that I was ok with it as long as the color is correct.

New painted parts on the way.  I went with all painted parts with stripes.

I'll let you know when they come in.  Ordered 5/15.

I did call customer service and had a number generated, they also told me to go to my dealer..I went in to my dealer last week and they took some pictures and e-mailed them off to HD...I spoke with them this morning and they have not heard back from the Warranty guys yet...all I can do now is cross my fingers that that this is going to be an easy fix since everyone seems to be complaining about the same thing. :-/ I will let everyone know as soon as I hear seomthing...at least they were aware of the problem. Thanks to all who have helped out here. This is a FANTASTIC site!

I have the black & slate and everyone who has seen the bike with the milky paint can't beleive how awsome the bike looks with the new paint. The new paint a couple weeks old 1000 miles new paint is 110% improvement and all matches.

About a month ago I discovered that the paint was comming off the V8 type emblem on the rear fender of my '06 SE Ultra.  Shortly thereafter I showed it to the service dude in the dealership and was told he'd take care of it.  I called today, and I'm not sure anything was done.  I guess I'll just have to live with it.  I just wish people would try to be honest and do the right thing.  Those days are gone.  I'm tired of fighting it.  I guess it's like I told the good looking blonde on the street corner- "don't sweat the petty things, pet the sweaty things".  :o  -Steve

Thanks gator. I can only imagine how much better your bike must look. I told my dealer that even with the milky color my watermelon looks great but if everything matched the saddlebag lids it would look friggin' awesome! I'm glad you're happy with it. I think HD originally intended that these bikes would be beautiful and they sincerely tried to do that and did a good job of it. It's been unfortunate that some didn't turn out just right. At the end of the day, though, HD is now doing everything they can to make sure we get what they intended to sell us - a beautiful bike. Today the area rep was looking my bike over and I let him tell me which parts he thought were affected. He said all parts with stripes should be replaced. He had told me even if he didn't think the part should be replaced, HD would replace it if I requested it. I was very impressed with his concern for making it right.

I think we have to be careful what we read on the internet. It's real easy to say whatever a person wants to vent frustrations. Though HD has become huge, I am very impressed with the way they stand behind their products. They get my thumbs up. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

BTW - the area rep did mention that the black & slate colored bikes were the ones affected the most.

Yet another twist I had not yet heard.  Got a call from dealer today.  Seems the MoCo has approved me to get new bags only.  They told the dealer that if there was a big improvement that they would "see what would be next".  Maybe they are trying to get me to pass on the tank, which is also very noticable.  I won't.

If they think I am going to give up, they are mistaken.  Especially if the bags look as good as I think they will.  I thought the whole deal very odd.

My dealer told me today that my new tins are in... [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif] [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]   Gas Tank, Front Fender, Outer Faring, Lower Saddle bags (not the lids), both sides covers and think goodness the REAR FENDER..... Which I guess they saw something I didn't :o. Seems like the clear coat is peeling off of my rear fender :o. I haven't seen the new tins yet still in the box but they have schedule an install date the 15th of this month.  I'll let you know how everything goes... While I was at the dealer today I told them that they better pull them out of the box and look at them real close to make sure they are perfect and not[smiley=oops.gif].  Brian my dealer rep (who is a real good guy has really went to bat for me).  He also told me that the old tin would be destroyed and pictures sent back to the Moco ain't that wild....???? Still don't understand that  [smiley=nixweiss.gif], but if that the case that means nobody else who has bad paint will be getting my old tins  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif].

Apparently they've fixed the paint on the last few Black Candy/Slate they've shipped.  Picked up mine Saturday and the paint is perfect!!  Inner/outer fairing match, lids match the rest of the bags...when the sun's on it, the red flake sparkles in the Black.  I know it's a beatch having to go through this to get new parts, but it WILL be worth it!!   [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Congrats on that.  Looking forward to my ordered new parts when we get back from Cripple Creek.  MoCo can have the bugs. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Yea Spyd...I'm in love.  My anal retentive a$$ put some Glare on her Sunday morning before heading to 29 Dreams.  A few bugs committed suicide on the way back home, but they came off easy with that stuff on the paint.  We don't have the "Love Bugs" this far North in my state, but I killed my share on the windshield of my car pulling her back from Mobile...thank goodness I rented an enclosed trailer!!

Rjob...you're gonna' love the new parts, man!  It'll be like getting a new bike all over again   [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]
