I bought mine in Auguist of 2005 and am still awaiting parts.  My bike has been sitting at Macon H-D since before Christmas.  I just spoke to Macon H-D and  "No Parts Yet" is all I get.  I can't wait to get this finished, sell the bike and be done with H-D.

I just had the new parts put on my bike (new front fender, outer fairing, gas tank, and saddlebags), and they look really great!
There are some slight buffer marks on the right hand saddlebag (actually, they replaced the bags, the lids are okay), but man, the crimson portion of the paint really jumps out! I believe these paint issues can easily be rectified, if not by the service dept. detailer, then by myself. . .
I had no idea that the difference would be this dramatic.
On the other hand, I'm sorry to hear that one of the owners (from Macon, Georgia?) has been waiting for parts so long.
I say horse-hockey!
The dealer stated that painted parts can take between 6 - 12 weeks for delivery. Mine came within a month. The dealer ordered a part I didn't need, so they had to reorder to get the outer fairing, but the process took very little time. My point is that I believe the MoCo knows about the problem, and have painted parts on the shelf.
I would be calling the touring division of the factory and asking some serious questions. The dealer for the gentleman in Macon is not doing their job, so. .  . go up the chain of command. Don't wait.
Come on! It don't take that long...
Now I have a question: The detailer said that I don't need to put any kind of wax on the new painted surfaces, that it's best to let it "breathe." I understand the concept of paint "breathing," but I'd like to know what you think.
I'll be heading to the Yuma Prison Run in a couple of weeks, and think that applying some Glare (or another product) might be a good idea.
What do you do?
What are your suggestions?
Again, I'd like to thank the members of this website, because without this knowledge, I would have never known about the paint problem, much less some of the other great information I've learned from the great members of this much-needed website.
Sincerely,
Geezer

Geezer,
Glad to hear you got your painted parts in and they are to your satisfaction. In regards to applying wax to paint only thing that I've ever heard is that you shouldn't apply wax to fresh paint. You should allow it to cure 30 - 60 days. The question is how new is the paint on the parts you received? Were they painted months ago and sitting on the shelf or were the painted just prior to shipping? I definitely would at some time in the future put something on it to protect the paint finish. I've never heard of it not recommended to put wax on at anytime. :confused5:

Thanks for your message firedOOd!
As I said in the prior message, I really get the feeling that they have parts already painted, ready for shipment, due to the fact that the MoCo knows a problem exists. And if they told me (as they tell others) that painted parts take 6-12 weeks for delivery, and then delivery is within a month, then what's that all about?
Must have had 'em on the shelf. . .
And yes, I'll definitely wait before putting wax on, but I will be protecting the finish. . .

Mike, no one has had as much chit to deal with as you over the paint deal.

I have had a couple of items on my bike twice, originally ordered in August I think, re-ordered in October, installed in January, re-installed in late February.

Thinking back however, in addition to the chit we all have dealt with, some much more than others, no one has had as much crap out west than your dealer and the MoCo rep shovelled your way.  Hopefully this will be resolved when your new tins come in.  I know that with mine twice the dealer thought they were ordered and somehow they weren't though.

It may be worth raising the question.  We ordered my second tank in January and it was here during the strike.

Gives a whole new meaning to "Harley-Davidson ownership experience" doesn't it?
I haven't purchased anything from HD in 6 months and I feel great!  :2vrolijk_21:

Faster to total it than wait on parts that are NOT being made anymore  :'(

Or just rattle can it and keep on going.

There has been nobody from the remaining people waiting, since 3-11 who have gotten any new parts. Yea, I feel like MoCo family alright.....and my HD dad is a rich raging alcholic who beats his kids.

What they really should do here is, stop spending Money on Customer satsifaction survey cards and questionaires, fire all the Online Survey employees, fire all but one of the customer care employees ....take that money and satsify ALL the unsatsified customers by making right, their wrongs.
