TM...if you don't mind revealing, where in the US do you live?  If it's anywhere around Alabama, I'll be more than happy to show the rep one that has good paint so he/she can compare if you don't get something going with the MOCO customer service.

Wade back through this thread.  There are names and contact phone numbers for Harley personnel above the local field rep who do know of the existence of your issue.  No need to try and take the high ground from the valley if you can drop in from above.  Call the folks and go around the local field rep if he's that much of an idiot/wanker.

 Tinman,
There is NO question, the paint gets worse with time. The sun (UV) just eats the color from the "bad" paints so fast you can almost watch it. So if that joker states "you should have seen it before" he is just trying to save the moco $$$. Fight my brother! Even though I finally have a good replacement set, I have started noticing the outer fairing fading, what next? Wrongway

THE REP CALLED TODAY-STATES I SHOULD OF NOTICED PROBLEM IN THE 15 MONTHS I HAD BIKE. HE CALLED BACK 10 MINUTES LATER, ASKED WHAT PARTS I WANTED. TOLD HIM ALL WITH STRIPES. HE CALLS BACK AGAIN SAYING I CAN GET NEW BAGS AND FAIRING WITH CONDITION I SIGN A RELEASE THAT WHATEVER COMES IN THATS IT. I CALLED BACK, REFUSED AND SAID I WANT ALL NEW PAINT AND IF I DONT HEAR FROM HIM IN  A WEEK HELL BE HEARING FROM MY ATTORNEY. THAT WAS A MESSAGE TO HIM-HE DIDNT ANSWER PHONE.

Yep, I think it does fade with time.  I'm on my second tank, and it may just be the headaches I've already experienced, but I think my tank is fading.  Everything else looks awesome, but the tank looks like it is getting cloudy.  Then I change angles, and it looks good again......particularly with a fresh coat of Glare.  I dunno.  I'm out of warranty in August, so I'll take it to Columbia and see what they'll do.

Its really sad that MoCo is still playing this BS game after numerous part replacements on so many bikes.
I wish you luck man, but with all that some of us had to go thru, I feel for you. Personally, I wouldnt do it if i had the choice of doing it over again, I'd just ride it and repaint it myself like I want someday, which is where Im headed if the next set of parts come in screwed up again. No Matter what MoCo can kiss my butt, I spend the least amount of money I can on their products now. Period, I dont care if the next set of parts (if they even ever get here) are perfect, they have lost a life long customer.  :sauer021:

I'm with you Mike.  I'm wondering if I should just live with my fading tank, and when it gets so bad that I can't stand it, just strip it down and get the whole set repainted black with chrome sparkle.  It still looks good, but I think the tank is fading.  Not sure it is worth another battle like the first one I fought.  I'm keeping this scooter anyway, so it is likely I'll repaint in the future.

OK guys, I've been thinking my tank is fading.  I can feel the stripes, but sometimes it looks just a little lighter than everything else......and when it get hit with the flash it looks really brown.  I have some pictures that look both really really good, and others which really mess with my eyes.  Help me out here.

This one looks pretty good.

See what I mean?  This is the only piece on the bike that screws with my brain.  One second it is awesome.  The next it looks like a bakery item.  And the strange thing is the stripes can be felt, and it has a NOV 2006 paint date.  I'm at a loss on this one.

Pic and flash lighting can play tricks on our eyes.  Do you see that much difference in person?  That middle one looks like my old Milk Dud tank.  Brings back some terrible memories....

I don't want to go through all that again!

(I sure do like those watermelons though, wish I'd have seen one first... :cucumber: )

No, I never see that much difference in person, but when I do stand back and look at it in the bright sun, it looks like my tank is fading.  It is very, very subtle.  Then, all I have to do is walk to a different area, and BLAM.........perfect!  No more fading!  I'm certain my melon is having a fantastic time messing with my mind.  The old Girl is out there laughing right now.  She's probably trying to tell me to get up off my a$$ and get out there and Glare her since I flogged her for over 1800 miles last week.  Hang on Baby, I'm on my way................just a little more coffee.
