wow , you can really see the milky clear, how long did it take till you noticed, did it get worse over time?

I picked mine up August 27th and noticed the faring as soon as I got it out in full sun.  It was overcast when I picked it up at the dealer.  I took it back as soon as I could got a day to ride.  The dealer is in Macon GA about 120 miles.  They took one look and said "Thats not right and we will get it fixed"  They have ordered the parts but have not gotten anything from H-D as of Friday.  I had begun noticing a change in the bags but it wasn't until today that I had it out in the sun and up on the lifting cleaning it that I saw how bad it had become.  It seems to be getting worse to me but I may be mistaken.  I have 5000 miles on her and have been looking over the windsheild not at the backend!  I have sent the pictures off to the dealer and will call him tomorrow to let him know we need to talk.  I will let you know what I find.   [smiley=confused5.gif]

That's almost as if something continued to cure or a drying agent wasn't working normally?  Weird.  Too bad and sorry yet another is havng the problem.  This time in another color scheme too.

Back in '04 on my Orange/Black SEEG. My inner fairing looked as though someone took sand paper to it in areas. But you couldn't feel anything, the discoloring seemed to be coming out from under the clearcoat. This occured about a month after purchase. Dealer replaced it under warranty, saying it was some sort of chemical reaction.

Good luck to all, and be patient. It will all be resolved properly...

Take Care,

Grover

And now the rest of the story....

I got it! I just brought it home and it is tucked away in my garage. It ran great (though I never took it over 50), it sounds great...if the paint was good, all would be great. I should post the story of the nightmare over the past 3 days with the stealer who did not want to sell me the bike, but that is for another post. In the mean time, I got her! The first piece of chrome was added in the parking lot of the stealer. My ride bell given to be by my girl (ok, it's not chrome...highly polished silver). I now belong to the wonderful world of the CVOer. My God, what have I done?

Yes, yes, I know....   [smiley=worthless.gif]

DONE! [smiley=2vrolijk_21.gif]

As for my next step. I'm going to ride her like I stole her and wait. If something does not happen, a class action or something, then I will be the one to start it. I am betting if I wait, all things will get worked out. There are too many voices now...we all just need to find each other and this board is a great place to do it.

... Worst case..I have the best painter in the world....if the moco don't fix it...he will. ...

Any chance you could ask him what he thinks the issue is and if he thinks buffing it out would work?

Dealer called today and wants more pics (I sent them three).  I am about 350 miles away otherwise i would haul it over and let them see it in person.  Is there any more thought into the chance that this is something that happens over time?  It seems that people are seeing this after the fact.  Someone help me on the curing factor of paint/clear coat.  Looking for ammo when it comes down to boxing the dealer >:(

One other thing when I started reading and became a member of this wonderful forum I was using this [smiley=drink.gif] now it has come to this >:( THE MOCO NEEDS TO STEP UP!

No, no, I agree.  I was talking about it from the standpoint of expert testimony against the defendant (The MoCo). I watch too much TV.

In other words, would an expert in motorcyle paint ever have encountered this issue in their own experience and attest to the fact that it is curing or clear coat or just bad all around paint.  And if he has encountered this, and it is clear coat, will buffing it out really work, and not harm the clear coat in a manner that may cause further issues down the line.

If your painter has never encountered the issue, then the point is moot, but maybe those that have the paint issue can branch out to a few local painters and ask the question.

It then provides ammo for those with the issue when they talk to the MoCo.  It's like getting a second opinion from an oncologist when the HMO says the tumor is nothing to worry about.

This can't be that big a mystery.  How long have cars/bikes been painted using clear coat?  And how many custom paint sets has HD and it's contractors successfully made...with clear coat?  I have to believe that any competent, experienced automotive level painter would know what causes this condition.  Good grief, they probably teach the do's and don'ts of painting with clear coat at the local Tech school auto body department.

Well I just got off phone with the MoCo company and why does it surprise me that they said that they have not heard of any paint problems… [smiley=nixweiss.gif]…….At first he was nice but forceful saying that out of the paint QC dept the assembly QC dept, he just could not believe that this could happen and that The HD dealership inspected the bike when they received it. And then the filial inspection ME Why didn’t you catch it…  [smiley=confused5.gif]…..I guess transferring all the blame to me. He said don’t you think that if there was bad paint that that many people would catch it >:(….So there must be nothing wrong with the paint it is probably something else….Light or something.  I told him about this site and how that there is a lot of Black & Slate owners that have paint problems.   His answer was well nobody that he as heard of has reported this to HD.  When I went off on him he finely decided to log a call and he gave me a ref # so now I have to take my scooter back to the dealership for them to look at the paint.
LET THE GAMES BEGAIN……….
So if any of you want to call this guy and tell him that there is BAD PAINT he is at
1-414-3434056 then  4  then   4   then 3    HIS NAME IS    [highlight][/highlight]JOHN
I Just got off the phone with customer service I explained that I did not want some 3rd party body shop buffing on my bike. I told him I didn't believe it would work any way and the appropriate solution would be to replace all the improperly painted parts. He told me he was logging the call and gave me a reference number. He says he isn't sure if buffing would work either and it it is a CVO not some cheap dirt bike or something and asked me to e-mail pictures of the bike to buellservice@harley-davidson.com and include the reference number of the call in the subject line.  I also have to make a appointment for a service tech to see the bike. He got the point I don't want the bike buffed. I hope it all works out.

Good move, 2up.  I was worried for you when you said in the other thread that you were going to have someone use a grinder . . . . . . . . . . . . . . uh, I mean, buffer on your new CVO.
