Scott,

I installed mine just like Hoist did and they work fine.  Now I do have a 07 Jester just like AJ (best Harley ever made &  ??? most enhancements too).  From Hoist's pics and  post they should work that way.

I feel your frustration and hate you are having problems - I do not think Dan would have sent them to you if he knew they would not work.  They were really Good to work with and straightup guys,  I am sure he will make it right.

You may want to PM Howie maybe he has an idea?

Good Luck :2vrolijk_21:

Howie sent me a GREAT email w/ pics... There is some difference in the bags from a 07-08 and we tried mounting them 360 deg in every way possible :(  Trust me I wanted them to work so badly... After howies email I went back to the bike with his pictures and they just wont fit :(

Even the seat on the 08 is different because of the rear fender.. I wanted a mustang really badly,  but they said the 07 and 09 will not fit.. Ended up with a Corbin that made a special one for the 08...

Mike was GREAT to deal with but he went on vacation so I was dealing with Dan.  When I got the shocks Friday I called to thank them for the quick service.  I noticed the shocks were setup completly different between the two.  One @ 15mm and the other @ 0mm.. The other adjustments were off as well..  Was not happy... They didnt sent the adjustment wrench..

On top of it when I got to the shop,  we realized they didnt send any shims,  or the eyelet bushing (?) so the stock bolt was too large...

Not a happy camper as I had to pay to have them put on then taken off.....

Dan is taking them back,  but wasnt the most forthcoming in covering my return shipping.... He did finally agree... I have written the Owner Max with my story,  as I think they should cover the labor.. I dont think I am asking too much.... (am I ???)  Called progressive and others today and there is no way a shock with a external resovoir will work with leather bags....

I just placed a order with Howard from Motorcycle Metal http://76.162.149.2/gpage32.html  for Ohlins....  They are about the same price and I have heard great things.. Ohlin is building them to my specs as well...

I am NOT bashing Traxxion at all as they are great to work with and know their stuff.. I guess the 08 SERK is just a little different and speshul  :nixweiss: :nixweiss:

Update:

Just spoke to Max,  the owner @ Traxxion.  He said that noone has ever tried to mount them on a 08 SERK before,  and they just wont fit...  He is taking care of shipping and the labor charge.

They are good folks,  but just a shame I cant use their product!!!

And no,  I am not trading to a SERG or getting hard bags!

I don't see what all the fuss is about, I have the exact same bike you have and they fit just fine. The only difference I may have over yours is I don't use those cheap quick detach hardware kit for the bags. I installed a SS bolt with a low profile jam nut so it is like a fixed stud. I push the bags over the studs and use an aircraft nut inside the bag. It takes me maybe 2 minutes extra per bag and no one is going to yank the bags off and walk away or fall off as some have done. I used all SS hardware and it cost maybe $5.00 counting washers. That may give you about 1/4 to 3/8 of an ince clearance. I did have the shocks with the bags with the old set up and it fit ok, a little tight but I didn't have to bend anything.

Ray,

I believe ya,  and I wanted nothing more to keep them.  They just will not work.  The plastic moulding on the inside of the bags doesnt allow room for the reservoir.....  Spoke to Max @ Traxxion and he agrees...  I do have the stock bag mounts,  and dont want to mess with them...

Trust me,  we tried....  I will try and get some pic's.....  Great guys at Traxxion and I will do the AK-20 over the winter

Any pics?  I hate those factory fasteners.  They're not secure either -- just snip the wire & make off with locked bags.

I'll try to get some photos of the hardware I installed tonight or tomorrow, wife has the camera. After a few members posted photos of their fastener failures resulting in damage to their bags I went to the local hardare store and solved that problem real quick. I'm also a little paranoid about theft, I had items stolen from 3 vehicles, a break in to my home and one to my barn. Anything can be stolen but why make it easy. I sure hope the Bitubo's fit when I go to hard bags, I'm probably alone on this but the Bitubo's were much more noticeable than the AK-20. I have a low back issue and the Bitubo's at 1" longer made a significant improvement. Going to the 13" over the 12" only raised the bike 5/8".  I hate to say this but given the issues you have with bottoming out I think you are always going to wonder how well the Bitubo's would have worked. Send me a PM if you want to make them fit using the hardware set up, it's not noticeable and is cheap insurance.

All this makes me wonder if you got the right shocks, even if the box said so.  I'm sure Dan grabbed a pair from stock and just shipped them out, but if you did not get the sleeves or the spanner wrench, and each shock was not set the same, I would wonder if either Bitubo just screwed up, or if the shocks somehow got messed with prior to shipping. :nixweiss:

Any of that is a possibility?  Dan may have just gotten swamped?  Mistakes happen,  and I am good with that since they made good with me.  But Max did say they do not make a shock that will fit my bike w/o modification to the bags...  Its the damm reservoir that causes the problem as there is nowhere for it to fit....  I ended up going with the Ohlins with a internal resovoir.  Dan even helped me with that one...  The Ohlins seem to have a great reputation,  and I can give a full report Friday...

Mine fit fine with no contact with the stock hard leather bags and quick detach mounting hardware.  The reservoirs are reversed and no place is there less than a quarter inch of clearance.   It took two tries to get the shimming right, but that's no big deal.

To all that have them on a 08 SERK,  Please post pictures with the bags on from the top down... This would greatly help both me and Max @ Traxxion figure out the problem.  Also my mechanic would love to know why he spent hours trying everything...

Yes, it is possible that either Bitubo put the wrong shock in the wrong box, or somebody in Dan's shop did the same.  What makes me question that is because none of the shims/bushings were included, nor the spanner wrench.  Either way, there's something weird going on, since others have got them to fit.   :nixweiss:

Hey guys!

got the shocks back from deaf1 and they are the definitely the right shocks, same as the others we have on the shelf. I polled our techs and none of them can remember working on a bike with the leather bags, so we just aren't sure about the fitment on that one. If anyone that has them mounted up with the leather bags and would like to post up the particulars, that would be great.  :bananarock:

cheers,
Dan

Dan,

Here is an illustration and discussion of one of the group putting them on an 07 with leather bags.

Also, in an attempt to be shamelessly cheap and selfish here (and beat everyone else to it), any chance this pair is going to be offered at a discount for all the miles they've covered (in a UPS truck :huepfenlol2: )?

Just remember the 07 and 08 are different!!!  Like I said Mustang seats wont fit because the rear fender is different,  the forward mount hole for the bags are spaced differently as well.  Just minor things.  but enough!
