I'm Going To Bite The Bullet And Get A '09 SERG
« on: July 16, 2009, 04:49:46 PM »

Well people, it looks like I'll be trading in my '08 SERK on a new O/B '09 SERG.  I've made an offer and he wants to get my business away from another near by dealership.  I'm sure we'll deal, just a matter of what price.

I've found in showing pictures to people that the SERG is a love it or hate it bike.  My wife is not crazy about the Electric Orange and Vivid Black and would rather me get a Silver/Grey one.  If it were the Silver/Grey I would get it, but right now in our area finding any one of the colors is a lucky chance.  The SERG is a knock out in my book and the Orange/Black is my favorite anyway, so that's what I'm getting.

I hope I can convince the wife that it's worth trading in my perfectly great '08 SERK Annie with 7,600 miles on it for a one year newer bike.  She doesn't get the frame upgrades and doesn't understand that stuff.  At least I'll get my tunes now while riding.  I now have 18401 songs on my iPod so I'll be hooking that bad boy up very soon.

Hopefully I'll have as good luck with the new one as I did the SERK, no oil leaks at all.  I'm making the deal to include the color matching chopped tour-pak with all the mounting kits.  I'm also having them include the rear passenger running board inserts in the Rumble collection.  I'm saving all my rear passenger adjustable running board assembly off the SERK that I paid lots for.  Other than that I think I'll do the baffles, kill the CAT and a PCMIII and just move on with the great riding.

Next will be a true windshield.  I sit in the saddle as though I was about 6'-2" to 6'-3" so right now it looks like a CeeBailey at about 15" will do the trick.  I know that there are several threads on the windshield subject, but any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I'll post pictures as soon as I get it home, probably on Sunday, as Saturday will be my first riding day on the new ride.

Later dudes and dudettes.

Dan,

Good luck with the "upgrade."  Sounds like you're on the right track.  Very smart negotiating the tour pac.  Lot's of guys like the Ceebailey.  I use the Clearview GT Small, light tint.  Works very well for me at 5' 11" but you'd need the medium or maybe even the tall.  Here are the Clearview measurements:

Vertical Height Measurements
Here are some vertical height measurements that may help to see exactly where the top edge of the shield will be.  These measurements are taken from the flat ledge just above the speedometer and the tach straight up to where the top edge of the shield is:

Stock Harley shield - 12 1/2"
Harley Tall shield - 14 3/4"
GT Small - 11 1/2"
GT Stock Height - 13"
GT Medium - 14"
GT Large - 14 1/2"

Here's my list or what else you might want to negotiate at the dealer with my cost: SERG AND CVO: VERY GOOD TO ME! NEXT?  maybe you'll see something that helps.

Congrats on the new SERG.

I have the Orange/Black and get complements all the time.  You will not regret your purchase.   The 2009 CVO is an unbelievable bike!    Also wanted to let you know I have the 15" Cee Bailey's (I am 6'2'') and it works and looks great.   You will be very happy with it.    Happy Riding!

Best of luck.
I have the GT-Small and am 75" tall.  I'm looking over the top of the shield about 2 inches.  Perfect for me. :2vrolijk_21:

Well the deal is done. I pick it up Saturday.

I got the Rumble SEUC passengers running board inserts as well as everything to do the Electric Orange matching choppped tour pak. Even though they have sales at 20% off from time to time, I got them to write in 20% off everything but bikes for 60 days.

They hadn't heard about the recall on the rear wheels and will check my VIN against the list.

I spent tonight working on the SERK taking off the PCMIII, the exhaust back to stock, took off the SE AC and the rear running boards. I still have to finsh the left side exhaust and it will be all back showroom stock.

I have a guy in Kansa the will probably take my Reptile leather tour pak along with all the mounts and docking kit. I'll still have the PCMIII that is '08 touring only, SE AC and the V&H dresser duals and the V&H oval mufflers. So I may still recoup some of my add ons from the '08 SERK.

I'll be ready for Saturday morning, but my wife is still a little pissed that I'm trading. She's sti mad at me for selling my '40 Willys coupe with a blown 392 hemi back in '01.  I kelp telling her to just get over it but she's very resistant to my selling things and not keeping them very long. Oh well, get over this, I hope. All she kept calling me tonight is a spoiled brat, go figure.

Thanks for all the support. I'm looking forward to riding a new '09 touring bike.

Later dudes and dudettes.

Once you have the right windshield, I expect that your wife will like your SERG a lot better than your SERK. The paint job looks fantastic up close and even better out in the sunshine. Congratulations on your new O/B SERG! Be sure to post some pictures after you pick it up. There are some great SERG pictures over in this thread: http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=30876.0

I'm  glad your excited about the bike, I do love mine, however, if it were me, I'd wait just about 5 more days to see the 2010s before pulling the trigger, but that's just me.  ???
